Explaining Activision Blizzard's Crazy Woke Actions

I hate activision blizzard’s game design failures and ignoring of customer feedback like the next person dont get me wrong

but…psychologicaly, blizzard did the right thing

Woke people are just basically hipsters

How do you deal with hipsters?

By out-hipstering them, and coming up with a crazyer style

So…when the hippy woke folks hop on an issue and reee about it, you know what you do?

You go above what the woke people pointed out, and you go on an adventure of redesigning female sexuality so they look homogenous to men…because “illiquid gender identity is against our moral value”, along with other crazy stuff.

Now…now you got the woke hipsters flabbergasted.

your greedy company was at the onslaught of fatherless non-binary she-hes, who wanted to take down your white man company, but you just showed them that you are actually BIGGER HIPSTER THAN THEM, and your wokeness transended theirs by doing stuff the fatherless hipsters didnt even complain about “cuz they not hipster woke enough lol”

And just like a dirty rat…the hipsters go back into their dark layers…because they shamefully appear like lesser hipster woke things in comparison to blizzard’s mega wokeness now muwahahahhahahhaaaaaa.

The script has been flipped.
Blizzard is now in the driving seat, and is the amazing woke hipster sovling gender issues that hipsters IGNORANTLY DIDNT POINT OUT (omg how very unwoke of you…big yikes…probably not hipster woke enough hmmm?)

While im here just trying to not get oneshott by windwalker monks in arena, and having to wait for blizzard to finish their woke fluid gender battles with the hipsters before even looking at PVP forums and listening to customers’ feedback.

I think it’s a slight misunderstanding to suggest that because Blizzard are making some changes to the game in one area, then they cannot make other changes to the game in another area at the same time.

They can and they do.

A quick look at the PTR patch notes reveal that quite plainly.

So if they’re not doing what you think they should be doing, then it’s not necessarily because they’re doing this other specific thing instead.

The desire to project all kinds of issues onto Blizzard’s recent changes to in-game paintings or achievement names or whatever, is rather silly.

Not sure what your problem is or why you think a forum post will help, but maybe you would like some attention so this post should help you

Can I have some of that stuff that you’re on?

Are you saying Jaina looks like a man if she covers her boobs up?

The anti-sexual expression crusade is in full force, but it’s not from “hipsters” or “woke” people. Don’t get me wrong - I dislike wokeness, despite being probably the biggest leftist on this forum.

It is really hard to extrapolate the motivation behind an action when you have incredibly incomplete data.

Here’s a few suggestions:

  • China has new regulations regarding sex appeal in games. Maybe Blizz needs to add the new assets to appease them? Maybe they won’t even appear in our client? China’s client is different from EU/NA’s one, but all the assets in it came from Blizz, including the boneless undead.
  • Maybe devs want to cover things up because they personally feel it creepy? It happened with Skullgirls - the devs decided to change how panty shots, upskirts and other things look in that game. Nobody asked them to do it, nobody was saying Skullgirls is “problematic”. They just personally felt like creeps for having made some of those, so they changed them.
  • ESRB/PEGI are changing their rating rules in accordance with the reactionary crowd and youtube complainers. For example, games that feature casinos prominently, glorify gambling, etc will automatically be given a Mature rating now, no matter what the surrounding game is.
  • It’s also possible the App stores are changing their ratings, pushing for the changes to Jaina’s attire. Remember that Discord bans users from viewing adult servers on iOS because of Apple’s rules.
  • Maybe some of the things they’re changing have personal history in Blizz, one relating to Alex Afrasiabi? Possibly some of the people who had to deal with him now don’t want the game to remind them of his abuse.

Wokeness, hipsters, etc. are a distraction. Usually there’s much bigger things at play that remain invisible as long as someone considers people with twitter accounts to be valid. Generally, you should run on the assumptions people on twitter do not matter.

And this seems to be a thing that alot of people don’t get. For years those people behaved without punishment and the victims felt like they were not taken seriously. Changing things simply might mean that they’re saying “we take you seriously now” and that’s part of their whole cleanup process. It might be irrelevant or unnecessary to others, but we’re not the ones who had to endure those working conditions. “it solves nothing” that’s very true, but that’s not the point.

Pseudo Progressivism is about being holier than thou, being disingenuous.

How Blizzard treats some of their female employees, is it wrong, sure, do I care, being honest, no I don’t, just balance the game so I can have fun.

In 2021, you have to out progressive the progressives in order to beat them, have them make the argument for you that things are becoming too extreme and maybe we should all dial it back a bit.

I think these changes are just Blizzard throwing a dead cat on the table so the snowflakes will whine about the removal of /spit or crass puns about Hos rather than about real issues with the game.
There are more forum posts about these silly (if somewhat over zealous) changes. They don’t really matter that much.
I never noticed this painting with nudes that will be getting fig leaves, I doubt anyone would have noticed it being changed if nobody had announced it somewhere. Same with the puns about Hos. And /spit can be easily replaced with /insult /moon /fart or various other emotes.

Question: why do you need to “deal” with the “wokism”?

You’re assuming at default it’s a problem, why?

What exactly do you, as an individual, lose by blizzard covering up Jainas boobs and covering a few nudie paintings?

This doesn’t strike me fundamentally as something that’s an “issue” outright, so I’d like someone to explain why it’s an issue? For purposes of clarity can we stick to the facts of the case of the changes known and not invoke hypothetical “what comes next” scenarios, because well, without any evidence of such it’s just hand waving and fearmongering.
