I have a bunch of explorer gear that I can use to use flightstones on but sitting at 414 from Season One makes them useless?
Also does the first S2 spark come from the campaign?
Yes and i would wait with using any sparks and other upgrade items till the second season starts.
Explorer gear is essentially catch up gear. Aim for veteran.

What is Veteran exactly? It would have to have an ilvl of atleast 421 to be an upgrade for me.
its basically the same as explorer, upgradeable for 8 levels except its higher ilvl
also needs more unique harder to get items to fully upgrade but its up to 424
Then at some point we’ll get champion gear which is mostly from the vault iirc and goes up to 437 ilvl

In which case wait until Wednesday and do the usual group content for gear. This stuff is mostly catch up/open worlder stuff.
