What a most stupid and idiotic affix and after so many years (Fel Explosives) you still cannot either remove it or try to make it better.
In the last few days I have played my hunter, only doing +7 (dozens of), so I am not a +20 player, granted. However when anyone beats me on DPS I wonder what did I do wrong (or what did they do right), and in all cases it is the explosives. At the end of each M+7, I have 70K-80K on explosives, and the other DPS have like 1.5K-4K damage!
The above to show you that I do kill the orbs, I do not ignore them. I am playing as you have designed and spending most of my time looking out for orbs.
However they cannot be damaged unless you click on them. Behind a chair or a table, at the other side of a hilltop, or in the distance mixed up with 4-8 name plates at 2 pixels each.
So looking at the forums players use “nameplates” addons that magnify and/or FILTER the nameplates shown and colour them, so even a disabled person can click on them.
In other words, your most idiotic of affixes requires players to install horrendous addons that change the whole screen, to be played.
Is this what you had in mind? That the game would be unplayable until and unless one installs nameplate addons that filter and magnify the nameplates turning WoW into a whack-a-mole tabletop game?
Orbs are the healers job (mostly). They have free instants that will kill them. You generally use focus which is a higher cost than that of the healer.
The exception is when a “lot” spawn or if its clear the healer is struggling at that point in time. Thats a judgement / experience call.
tl/dr its not a great affix but you’re doing it wrong.
The issue with orbs is players tend to ignore them. Plus, the disrupt rotation. In some cases i just kill orbs and dodge stuff. Also, some groups are horrible. Like last group at temple. I have to do dodge, interrupt, kills orbs and DPS . Basically it’s about players in the end
On your planet, maybe. I cannot “cleave” them, they must be targetted. AOE abilities like Beast Cleave, Swipe, Thrash etc do not kill them.
I played my Druid tank on a +8 just earlier, and as usual I came top in the “whack-a-orb” mini-game…
My damage to them Explosives was Moonfire, Melee, and Mangle. No Swipe, no Thrash, no Brambles…
Same with the Hunter. There are 4-8 mobs, I have two pets in the fray with Beast Cleave on and Multi-shot, but the Explosives are unkillable unless I target them.
All this stupid affixes made the gameplay impossible and boring. I used to play a lot of M+, but the more sh** they put in, the less I played. Now I don’t play M+ at all anymore…
in a Premade set up, orbs are done by the healer. not the DPS. due to its function and how a unorganised PuG deals with it… it sadly becomes mandatory for basically everyone to be looking for em… because its without a doubt people in ur group will ignore them.
Explosive does suck though. its one of those affixs u just never want to play. Storming is a Second one thats just for no point at all irritating.
a cool way to make em better would be.
if u dont kill em, explosive does damage to the party.
if u do kill em, they do their damage to the Enemies.
this would mean, for this affix week u’d basically run a Full ST Build to nuke bosses Hard, and then use Explosives for cleave damage on trash packs… which means it’d actually do what affixs are designed to do.
Can i understand why Vengeance Demon Hunters can’t have a 1shot ability like throw glaive to kill explosives? Why does throw glaive reduce explosive to 1% instead of 1shotting it, how is this fair while other classes all have 1shot abilities. Even after the huge nerfs on this class, Blizzard always finds a way to screw VDH more.
At least give throw glaive a 5% dmg buff for it to destroy explosives, this has been an issue for multiple expansions now.
Horrible affix but was worse earlier. Not sure if you still cant use a macro on them. I find Plater (addon) makes them easier to target. But the worst part and for a lot of this game is where other objects (mobs, platers, etc.) invisible area over laps them so even if you click on an explosive bar you target something close. This really messes up my mouseover targeting and fall back to tabbing in big clumps of adds. Sucks but fail game mechanics make this bad affix worse.
they are not THAT bad imo. its abit annoying that its another “healer affix” but better groups can adapt and realise when giga aoe damage is happenening that the healer doesnt have the globals.
id rather have explosive than griveous/bursting. MUCH rather
You can cleave off of them, which you couldn’t originally. Originally, if I targeted a bomb with Avenger’s Shield, it would straight up fly to some other target. Not to the bomb and then something else, just straight to something else. It was the same with say, Chain Lightning. Now these things work.
So tell me what is a point of affixes in the first place?!
They are there to make players life harder not to comfort you.
I like them because i don’t have to moving and i can free casts. One frost shock making job so any melee can just use generator to take it down.
This sounds to me like a bug fix. Sure if I target the orb, I would expect AoE to work and my shield, or chain lightning to bounce off it and trigger all abilities as normal (eg multishot triggers beast cleave).
But fixing what looks like a bug does not make the affix even tolerable.
I agree 100%, except it has to be a WoW-like “hardness”, not a cheapo, arcade game “whack-a-mole” type of difficulty!
Orbs spawning behind “furniture”, on the other side of stairs, under a bridge in the sea, etc… Very hard to even know it is there, let alone try to kill it
Orbs spawning off of “trivial” adds, which my UI does not even show name plates for, but there are a lot of these adds on screen…
Orbs do not stand out, so players use “name plate” addons that basically change WoW to some other game. Filtering out all nameplates except “Explosives” and displaying them at 2000x2000 pixels is NOT WoW.
For example I remember a few days ago in NO, I was targeting a bunch of mobs at the distance, there were 1-2 orbs in between, virtually invisible. Can’t click on them, can only cycle-tab-target in case they are there, because you cannot see them. Behind a hill, you get no chance, you got to go over there to see, in case there is one.
This does not make a harder game but a different game.
Try playing WoW without addons. Disable all your addons and see what the game really is. Of course there are addons that trivialise content, even play the game for you (multiboxers and botters), but these addons and software is not the yardstick.
In my opinion the litmus test should be, “can I play this dungeon, raid, affixes without addons?” “is it fun?”
I agree about spawning from very trivial mobs, but this is a minor and i can remember only one dungeon and 1 grp. of adds.
Whole attitude toward problem by some people is wrong. Explosives depend how big pull is and spawning in small range from mobs/players. If you have problem with number of orbs: make smaller pulls. If plates are problem: turn off plates. First of all don’t assign one person to orbs only make it whole team effort.
If players not soaking every single dmg, One or even two explosions are not a big deal for healer. Of course there are exception like life pools trash.
I healed 11m academy where tank did big pulls and dps were able to destroy orbs (i was surprised) this was pug run and players know their job, that all.
