Expressing strong dissatisfaction with Blizzard's new dragon-riding system and the perceived disrespect towards players who invested in flying mounts in a passionate message

I’ve had enough of these posts and comments about dragonriding, and I can’t hold back my disappointment any longer. Frankly, I’m utterly appalled by the ignorance of some players regarding this topic. “Fly like this,” “Get all your glyphs,” “Do this,” and “Do that”? Seriously? I firmly believe that dragon-riding should be made an option for those who enjoy it, or even better still, scrapped from the game, and here’s why.

It’s not because we can’t fly from one end of the map to the other or enjoy flying during levelling zones, which we couldn’t before. Let’s remember that although we couldn’t fly in those levelling zones, we at least knew that when we hit the level cap, we could, either via a questline or some other means, eventually get to fly, FREELY!!! No, it’s because Blizzard has shown a blatant disregard for, disrespect towards, and ingratitude to all of us, including myself, who have spent our hard-earned real-life money over the years buying flying mounts, only to have them rendered useless with this new expansion.

Why am I posting now, months after its release? A small yet hopeful part of me was hoping that in one of the patches, Blizzard would realise its abomination and bring back normal flying, even for max-level players, but normal flight nonetheless.

Let’s do some simple math here. Currently, there are roughly 8.6 million active subscribers per month. Not all of them will buy mounts, but let’s assume just 1% have (though we know it’s much more than that). That’s 85,000 people. The average flying mount costs 15 euros (and that’s a conservative estimate). That’s a whopping 1.275 million euros spent by players like us over the years since the game’s inception in 2004. It’s mind-boggling.

Now, here’s the real kicker. The Epic Pack they’ve released costs 89 euros and includes a flying mount you can’t use in the current content. Can you believe it? You buy that pack and can’t even use the flying mount where it matters most. Instead, you can use your new flying mount in Elwyn Forest to fight Hogger. It’s downright cheeky and a slap in the face to players like us.

And let’s remember the two essential quality-of-life features they’ve taken away with this absurd dragon-riding nonsense: the ability to hover and complete control over flying, landing, and taking off when you want, without any restrictions. How many of you have overshot your quest location or circled around trying to squint your eyes, looking for a landing spot out of mob harm?

But the icing on the cake is that racial abilities, like those of Druids who can shape-shift, are utterly useless when you’re in this new expansion. It’s like they’ve stripped us of our unique abilities.

Congratulations, Blizzard, you’ve managed to pull the wool over most of your player base. It baffles me how anyone can defend this nonsense when the rip-off and disappointment are right before our eyes. I won’t sugarcoat it.

Sorry, NOT sorry for speaking my mind on this. If people want to hate me for it, I couldn’t care less. I have better things to do than worry about ignorant and childish keyboard warriors. To those who genuinely enjoy this ridiculous new flying “system,” more power to you. But remember the rest of us who invested our hard-earned money in items we can’t use.

Been playing since 2006, such a shame, honestly. It is time to “invest” a much-loved hobby elsewhere …I won’t let the door hit me on the way out…

Blizzard has shown nothing. At EVERY EXPANSION until now, flying was locked until the mid patch that you got the achievement. Same thing as now.
All your mounts are still there and are still usable as ground mounts, just like previous expansions.
Only thing that changed is that they added a new travel mode with new mounts.

Did you miss something from their announcement? Next patch everyone gets normal flying in the dragon isles.

I hope they add some form of dragonriding to the rest of Azeroth. Have normal flying as is and a “dragonriding” style of flight! Perhaps even adding it to some old mounts.

It would be amazing to swoop and soar from Orgrimmar to Tanaris!!

This says it all. With regular flying coming in 10.2, just like it did in previous expansions, OP has nothing to complain about.

Where do these numbers even come from? 8.6 million subscribers? please provide a scource on that. Mounts dont cost 15 euro on average, there is a small handfull on the store, but the vast majority are available ingame at no additional cost.

Not that hard to belive, DF is not the first expansion to include a flying mount, but no flying at launch.

I really hope they let us do this, even if it’s only during the last patch.

Dragon riding doesn’t belong in this game. Quiet truly , it was fun for the first hour - after though , it has become a gimmick that sadly became main selling point ://

TIL you can make essays in the title.

Oh, I can’t wait for all the guild leaders to complain about the slow party members using old flying over Dragonriding while waiting for their group to arrive at XY location… I can already see it happening.

Well if the general consensus of the forum is to be believed (“No one will be using slow flying again anyway”) then it shouldn’t be an issue and there’s nothing to fear

These are people giving you tips on how to interact with the new flying, that’s nothing bad, you only see it like that because you hate it, that’s a you problem.

We have had pathfinder achievments added somewhere mid expansion for a decade now, a thing that I like by the way, flying ruins many aspects of the game and it’s a mere commodity that many have become lazy over. You haven’t lost anything, you gained A LOT with an almost incredible actual gameplay in flying instead of a glorified /fly command.

Also, you can spend your money however you want, burn it if you wish, but let’s be real here, you have supported one of the most miserable practices that capitalism upholds in regards to videogames, these cosmetics and services and whatnot are there because of finance positions in companies, and it’s things we can’t earn by playing a game that we buy and pay a monthly subscription for, they put it in an online store with a price that’s not earned (remember the cost of the game and subscription?), and we potentially lose content in the game to obtain these things.

Sorry if I have no empathy at all about your non issue, which I state again, is not only the same as previous expansions where you start without flying and regain the ability around a year later, but super better given we have a superior means of flying now that has been datamined to be applied to many other old mounts, even on some of your beloved greedful cashgrab products.

I hope this is a troll post because this level of naiveness is too high.

As mind boggling as the amount of people who bought pet rocks or are mentally trapped into funko pops.

Just be a responsible adult and don’t buy things that you see as not being worth or functionally faulty.

Three things:

  • 1: It’s better than swimming in the air.
  • 2: It’s been improved each patch.
  • 3: Git gud.

They should add dynamic flight to those too, again, non issue.

You said that by having a conservative estimate that amount of people could be 1% of the population, which I hopefully wish is the case, if not lower.

I don’t hate you, I just think different and dislike the supporting of this market practice.

Please, thanks.

Also, I agree dynamic flight is not perfect (we have a middle ground at least), it has to be improved with additions to speed effect changes such as slows and speed augments, having a couple more abilities that allow for more control as they have been doing already, and many more things.

tbh, I think most raid leaders would implement a “L2Dragonride or get out” requirement.

But he would like to have it now

This title is so long it barely fits on my phone screen.

I continue to be amazed at the defences of the old flying. There are no rational arguments other than convenience. If you try to help them with anything else than reimplementing air swimming and the destruction of the social systems, you are simply going to receive an earful. Anger, maybe then hatred.

The offence being taken here is breathtaking.

And now we’re talking about store mounts by defending their use case? You know what, fair enough. You should all be refunded and that store should close. How about that?

You ask me, there are three types of mounts: Ground, hovering, and flying. All mounts with wings should be flying, which is what today is called dragon riding. All mounts that have hovering properties, like the squids or the tomes, should remain as is and be called hovering, except they only hover 35ft above the ground at max. Any more than that and you slowfall. They should also move at 80% speed, not 100%. However, they could automatically hover you over obstacles.

The game world should be absolutely full of enemies that dismount you until you outlevel them, either with XP or in terms of some AP-like system.

And this achievement should die forever.

Now pile on the hate, you haters.

Yep i prefer not fly…
Game feels more alive when everyone is on the ground runing around that’s a FACT

It would do if the game actually had working servers anymore. It’s all pretty moot at this point due to how diabolically they destroyed the realm system.

Also the rendering distance for players and entities is so damn short you can’t be aware of the existence of players unless you are at a distance of five MM hunter aimed shots without mastery, around 200 meters, and it should be more than a thousand.

Many times I have used my Ornate Spyglass just to end up disappointed that whatever or whoever I wanted to see is invisible because of the short rendering distance.

At least this does not happen in BGs like in Arathi basin.

Can it become too much for the game engine? Maybe, but that’s something they would have to work on for the betterment of the game’s world given that we now have these super flying mounts.

TIL that adding a new, almost no grind, fast flying method is a huge disrespect for people who buy mounts for 15 euro.
I can only feel bad for folks with health issues preventing them to take advantage of dragonriding.
All your hard earned mounts are available for you to use on the ground as it was in previous expacs, but now you have bonus fast flying before pathfinder…
