would be super grateful if someone can give me the basic info on this. my 117gb internal ssd is not enough for the job.
i got a usb 3.0 port on my laptop, is it worth getting an external ssd and moving wow on there or should I just skip that and move it to my internal HDD?
if i should get one :
is there any point in getting a usb 3.1 external ssd or should I get the 3.0 version of that same ssd since my port is 3.0 anyway?
500 mb/s transfer rate ; is that enough for wow or should I get a 540/550 mb/s ??
external ssd through usb 3.0 will give a better experience. but it involves buying an external ssd, whereas you seem to already have a hard drive, so that’s up to you.
consider doing an internal upgrade if you only want to use it for that computer. you could likely swap your current 120gb ssd or hard drive. if you don’t feel comfortable doing that, if your laptop can’t be upgraded or if you want to utilise the flexibility of external drives by using it on multiple computers, or whatever reason you have, go with external.
assuming all else is equal, no.
don’t trust spec sheets too much, and yes it’s fine.
Why not replace the internal SSD & migrate the current drive to it, allowing for more space…?
Is there a reason why you cannot have WoW on the internal storage of the machine in question?
Should be enough for WoW, better than a spinning platter anyways.
Try and get USB3.0 at least for it. USB3.1 is better and there’s some NVME enclosures that offer faster speed of up to 1000MB/s
Not as fast as putting it into a M.2 slot but it’s faster than 3.0 speeds. But if you have 3.1 usb port though.
On saying that, PCIE3.0 drive loads up another zone in Shadowlands in 9 seconds for me with a 970 Pro drive.
4.0 drive 980 Pro would cut that down to 4.5 seconds.
Where other drives would be around the 15 second mark for USB3.1 nvme enclosure.
An USB3.2 enclosure though would use full speed of a NVME drive so expect 9 seconds from those in loading a zone up in Shadowlands. If you have a 3.2 port of course.
