Extreme CPU/GPU lag during heavy AoE fights

Hello,

I don’t know if this is the right section for this issue apologies if so, but I have a major issue with my computer.

During fights where there is heavy AoE involved my computer freezes to literally 0 frames per second for at least 20-30 seconds, even after a long time that the AoE has ended. Examples are the roots during Tindral in Amirdrassil and mass pulling trash in Vault/Aberrrus. This makes certain fights literally impossible to play for me, especially as a tank during Tindral where you need to soak the mushrooms.

I have tried to apply new thermal paste to both my CPU and GPU and a correct amount of it as well. Neither of those have seemed to fix my issue, which is strange because my computer could handle that stress previously. I have also tried to reduce my graphics settings that could have a major impact during AoE situations, like Particle Density, Spell Density and Shadow quality but none of those has worked either.

To be honest it sounds like a CPU or GPU issue when the computer freezes like that, but I am still unsure where the problem is. Because applying new thermal paste usually fixes issues like these.

Does anyone have any idea of what could be the cause to this issue?

If it ran without problems before, then most likely it is an addon issue, which often happens after a patch.

So disable all addons and then see if that helps.

I had the same problem on Sunday in Amidrassil, all addon were updated. I disabled all addons and it still lagged and freze like hell. So i think is a Blizzard problem.

If your PC freezes it’s definately not a Blizzard issue if it only affects a handful of people.

If you are having high latency that could be a server issue yes.

If you are having low fps in a raid, what’s your CPU? Is your CPU overheating?
WoW needs a very fast CPU for 60+ FPS in a raid but even a 7800X3D will drop in certain scenarios due to the singlethreaded nature of the game’s engine.

A bit late but better than never I guess, but I figured out what was causing the lag. It was a graphics issue and more specifically the resample quality which was set to “FidelityFC Super Resolution 1.0”. Switched it to “Bilinear” and now it works fine again!

You should not use the renderscale at all, leave it at 100%.
It is bugged since S3 patch and it will cost you alot of performance even if you turn it down to 33%
It’s completely broken and does the opposite of what it should.
