I just had my instagram account taken down because of copyright issues, and it’s literally just art (sculptures) I have made of my world of warcraft characters. I have stated they are characters from the World of Warcraft game, and I haven’t tried to sell any of them, so I am baffled about what the issue could be?
Is it legal to post fan made art of World of Warcraft online, or not? Does anyone have a link or a confirmation from a b l u e?
Blues don’t and will not confirm any interpretation of the terms and conditions. They aren’t the legal department, nor legally qualified to do so.
However there was a long conversation in the general forums at the beginning of the year about a change in the ToS that basically said that even fan-art based on WoW or WoW characters was copyright Blizzard.
That said, you are the first one I have heard about where they have actually enforced it.
It’s juts so weird. I only have around 300 followers because I don’t actively advertise, and meanwhile there are artists on instagram with thousands of followers who constantly make art of world of warcraft, and they’ve been around for years and still continue to be.
Meanwhile I’ve only been on Instagram for around a year, with less than 30 images on it x_x
PLUS, the fact that I’m not selling anything, while many other artists sell their world of warcraft art without any problems.
