Fate of the Kirin Tor - Khadgar's last words

Hello,
spoilers?

I would like to know your opinion on the things Khadgar said during and after the Fate of Kirin Tor quest chain, especially “no more councils, no flying cities and no meddling with worldly affairs”.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but Kirin Tor was always wherever the action was, helping however they could and were irreplaceable during WotLK, Legion etc.
The last part especially feels way too off for Khadgar, even when he is as old and tired as he is. It is almost as he is to become a miasma, holding Kirin Tor back. World without Kirin Tor would not be the same.
But maybe you see it differently and the future may not be so gloomy?

I feel like Blizzard are setting the story up for the next generation of Warcraft.
We’ve seen it with Shandris taking over from Tyrande and Malfurion who have retired.
And with Tess Greymane taking over from Genn who also stepped down.
And with Calia Menethil and Lilian Voss.
And so forth.

And they’re all mingling with each other and are best of friends.

So it feels like Blizzard are laying the foundation for Warcraft beyond the story and characters we’ve had for 20-30 years. A clean slate and a fresh cast for the future of the franchise.

I imagine what they’re steering toward, is a factionless world with a diverse cast of characters that Blizzard can write to their own liking, and a world setting that isn’t bogged down by whatever happened in past versions of the game, because that’s all been settled.

I think that statement of Khadgar might age very badly. :slightly_smiling_face: We will see.

Far as I could tell all 4 of them agreed that their pride and arrogance that they knew better than everyone else was their downfall so they all agreed to step back and just be mages.

True, it started in DF, where “Passing on the torch” was already a major theme with the examples you mentioned, and i think it’s fine, how much more can we put the same characters through without it becoming downright ridiculous?

Some new characters, with new dynamics between them, not marked by years of fighting each other, might just be what the story needs for a new phase, one without the faction war looming over everything.

Potholes in general lead nowhere, only to the nearest garage to replace the suspension

Yes, I know you probably meant plotholes, but I just couldn´t resist, sorry :beers:

Sure, I can also see that if Blizzard wants to continue Warcraft for decades to come, they need to do a changing of the guard at some point, so to speak. And that’s probably what they’re taking steps toward. It makes sense and it’s fine.

What I would say isn’t so fine, is the actual story itself and the way it is handled. I mean, it’s just dumb. It was dumb when Tyrande and Malfurion nope’d out of world affairs to go into retirement so they could smooch under the world tree all the time. It made no sense in the context of all the present dangers and their formidable abilities relative to their total abandonment of any moral obligations to use said abilities for the greater good.

And this Kirin Tor questline is dumb as hell as well. Because Blizzard’s goal seems to be to land this moment of reflection where the Kirin Tor is dissolved, it comes across as if all those Mages should be thankful to Xal’atath for showing them the error of their ways. It’s such a dumb conclusion wrapped in some sugar-sweet nonsensical musings from the various characters. None of it makes any sense in the context of the greater narrative and it completely betrays the identity of the character’s themselves that they all act this solemnly way.

But of course, it’s just so that Blizzard can work toward this next generation of Warcraft that they’re obviously setting up. But man is the execution awful.

I found “no more meddling in world affairs” even weirder when you consider the past of Dalaran and Kirin Tor. Pre WC3, before Archimond destroyed the city the first time, The Kirin Tor was quite elitist and isolationist. They were part of the alliance but generally didn’t get involved beyond what was absolutely needed (like finding recruits).

Considering how pivotal they were in both WotLK and Legion, contrast that with old version that was arrogant and got destroyed, it makes no sense.

Who knows what they got planned.

khadgar like a true bro rejected the matrix and decided that he cba

Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.”

What happened to prisoners inside the Violet Hold? Did they escaped and are now danger? :scream:
I mean, to prisoners which we didn’t kill in two versions of the dungeon.

That’s a great big spoiler in a thread title. Cheers for that

A few escaped, there’s a WQ to kill one in the wreckage of Dalaran, and a quest in Ringing deeps that ends with an escaped Demon, so at least a few got out, no idea how many are still at large though.
