Buy orders of what??
Of any thing. Like sell order but for buying. For example, you’re selling a mount for 1 billon but imho it’s cost about 1 gold. I want to buy it for a 1G. But no one know this and no one sell for this price.
Uuuh. You mean like professions?
A what now? Do you mean like you put a buy order on AH that you want to buy a certain item at a certain price?
Uhh yeah I’d like a McChicken with some extra fries.
Yep. Exactly. I really don’t understand why the game has sell orders only. This idea doesn’t allow visible feedback from buyers.
Yeah, like, why not? But I don’t think it’s needed or that anyone would use it.
Did you play EvE online? Everyone use this there.
Someone is selling, someone is buying on any market. But we have only selling in the game. It’s quite strange.
No I didn’t play EVE and it could work for sure, but with system being the same since the launch of the game for over 15 years people pretty much got used to it and probably wouldn’t adapt the new system.
There’s a first time for everything
Buy orders allow to regulate market prices accordingly to sellers/buyers wishes. Not only sellers.
We are seing wild west time at this moment in game. I mean market system.
Eve Online is well known to be an economics simulator rather than an MMO so I wouldn’t be surprised if stock exchange, usury, property insurance and mediation in foreign exchange transactions existed there as baseline game features.
I also know several games where buy orders coexist with sell orders, problem is in those games (let’s take Path of Exile or Warframe as examples) all trading is done using external trade sites. Or trade chat in rare cases. Auction house in wow provides a much better trading mechanic so such additions to it are questionable.
I didn’t request contracts or any other thing for speculation. Base operation only to be possible to make some kind of feedback/price regulation.
You go to the AH, the item you want is at 200k a price but you want to pay 150k.
You place a buy order on that item for 150k, and when a seller sells that item they are notified if they want to sell it for it’s current price but wait a long time or sell it to a buy order for immediate profit.
Right, thanks for the explanation.
Yeah that sounds like it could work, the problem I foresee is people want to pay the cheapest possible, right? So how do you know how much something is -actually- worth? Do you just hope that someone will sell a BoE for 80k instead of 200k?
It would become clear over time, much like sell prices do.
Let’s say you have a BOE and put it up for 1 mil. I put a buy order for it for 500k. Others appear and put up their own buy orders, say some are stingy as put up buy orders for 100k only or there abouts.
You won’t budge, you keep the price the same.
If more buyers appear and they all (say) tend around my price of 500k, that’s telling you that the item probably won’t move at 1mil. Eventually the low pricing buyers will be encouraged to pay more else nobody satisfies their buy order, whereas the people at 500k may be getting theirs satisfied.
So again, supply and demand and natural observation of prices and how quickly things move. What this does add however is to balance the initial barter between buyer and seller. In WoW atm if a guy gets a BOE for the first time, he pretty much sets the price. If buyers know this item exists, they can set the price before he does, showing how much they will pay, which may influence his initial sale.
At the moment he has pretty much no pressure to price outside of what he likes, and it’s hard to tell whether that is a true price (if it’s a rare item) whereas a flock of buyers tending to an average will give you an idea of its worth.
What I like about this idea as well is the ability to request older items/mats etc. If I wanted to level up my Cataclysm jewelcrafting for example but can’t find the mats on the auction house at the moment I have to go and grind the mats myself or try and wade through trade chat spam asking if anyone has what I’m looking for. With a buy order system I can pop it on the AH and if someone comes along and realizes they have some lying around in their bank they can offload it, get some gold and I saved some time.
