i decided i want to actually play a game. to go off the quest text alone and actually look around the world to find my way. i’m fed up of the game being nothing more than following an arrow.
but the problem i have found is when quest text is so vague.
nathanos asks me to scout near the middle of the landmass and meet up with him and lillian. there’s pretty much nothing else to go on, except for one dead goat.
any tips or advice?
edit: ive already gotten rid of the arrow and quest markers.
edit 2: also, that was just an example, ive found nathanos now
You can disable the arrow in the interface options in the menu.
As for the quest text, well, you’ll just have to try and follow it as much as you can. Usually it should at least give a hint as to where you should be going. If not then you’ll just have to explore the area.
Imagine being a yellow arrow new to the job just trying your best to help and trying to fit in the community to feed your family and this post comes along…
The quest text barely includes a description of where to go anymore because people don’t actually read, they just blindly follow quest area indicated by the map and then whine if it isn’t immediately apparent what to do when there. It has been this way for many years now and you should be well aware of that. The yellow arrow is just a little addition to it.
So if you’re going try navigating the quests by description alone,
This made me laugh, been levelling and for some strange reason (don’t judge me) I decided I hadn’t done Azshara in forever so started the quests and ended up doing the quest line for the faded Wizard Hat (toy my sister had never gotten). I had forgotten how annoying some of those portal quests are, I had to actually read the whole quest and yes I whined about it
That would be nice and all if the quest text didn’t just stay stuff like “fix the problem to the south of us”.
The south can pretty much be anywhere, and the problem isn’t really described.
Luckily you can expect it to be a theme parked setup with the objective being relatively close. But that’s not always the case.
Back in ye olden times, we did nae have arrows or mini map icons. Instead we either spent hours searching or using Thottbot as it were to find where the flippin’ thing was.
Back then we didn’t have to get to max level in order to START the proper game with all the mandatory daily grind BS. So we could afford looking stuff up. Or non-railroad quests.
On the related topic, anyone knows how to turn off Voice Chat button flashing without using any “full UI mod” addons or moving chat frame to the left? Just how to make it stop flashing every once in a while, gets annoying.
When I went and tried Classic I did like two quests before installing questie. Quest text has always been vague. We just used to google everything and Thottbot was fabulous.
I played from BC through to Mop and now back for Classic. I’m still yet to use a questing addon.
I’ve never found quest text to be vague. It tells you what to do with abit of story blurb. It then summarises the key points again at the bottom above any rewards and the ‘accept‘ button.
I can’t say I’ve ever found myself trying to track something down in a quest to then find myself lost wandering aimlessly in the middle of a random field in Azeroth not knowing what to do…
and even then if push comes to shove, do the unthinkable and ask for assistance in General chat
