Feedback: D.R.I.V.E

In today’s new PTR update, we’ve made significant changes to the D.R.I.V.E. system.

  • Increased the height the G-99 Breakneck can climb over obstacles, such as fences.
  • The D.R.I.V.E. Garage now requires you to unlock non-default parts. You can find them hidden throughout the Undermine and its activities.
  • The G77C Ultra (the engine with the lowest max speed) is now the default engine. The Pozzik is now an unlockable option.
  • Reduced the maximum speed of the GNZ Airmaster 9000 (the engine with the highest max speed) by 12.5%. Its acceleration at high speeds has been increased to compensate.
  • Boosts have been significantly retuned due to loading time constraints. We believe these changes will increase the level of control you find while boosting. Please keep feedback coming on how you feel about these new boost levels.
  • The Handcrank (the weakest boost) is now most effective at letting you maintain a higher than average top speed over long distances.
  • The Steamboil (the strongest boost) is very good at kicking you up towards your max speed, and can nearly double your max speed when you are already moving fast.
  • The Wildfuel Mk. 0 (the default boost) sits somewhere in-between these two.
  • Horns have been added.

Please let us know what you think after testing D.R.I.V.E. with the above changes. We have more improvements in development and we’ll share more soon.

Thank you!

I’m on the wire, above the undermine. i found the only one way

Overall I feel like D.R.I.V.E is a great new addition to the game and I’ve had a lot of fun driving around already, and I am looking forward to see how this feature will be expanded upon in the future. I did not try the earlier iteration so I can’t comment on those changes. However, the thing that is currently bothering me the most are the collision boxes, or rather lack thereof.

Now, for a normal ground mount I understand why it’s easy to clip into a wall and why that’s not an easy problem to solve, but that hasn’t ever bothered me anyway. With these cars however, having the entire front sticking into a wall really does bother me and does not help shake the feeling that this is just a faster ground mount. For example:

Other examples include getting stuck in a fence, getting stuck half way up a lightpost, or just ending up on top of or behind of random objects while drifting, which leaves a bit of a sour taste during the otherwise fun drifting experience.

Personally, I would really like to see D.R.I.V.E collissions be more restrictive so as to increase immersion.

Another way of putting it is that I was hoping for driving around the world to feel a bit more reminiscent of GTA rather than having the feeling of ‘I’m on a faster ground mount, but without the instant top speed’.

Other than that I have also experienced the stuck-turning bug multiple times, but unfortunately I have not been able to find a reliable way to reproduce it.

As for the coolness factor of D.R.I.V.E I would like to suggest adding functional front end lift, perhaps some kind of launch mode that lifts the front wheels up as the rear wheels are screeching away, by which I do not mean a simple static duration animation that does not change handling, acceleration, or feeling in any way.

I’ve been doing a few of the D.R.I.V.E Races throughout undermine, and while they are well made, with alot of cool interactions between the corners and drifting, and also knowing when to press ur speed boost, if not able to always maintain it, alot of them are extremely difficult to complete on gold with the standard engine.

Throughout most of the races, I have been able to barely scrape by a gold, although mostly only getting silvers.

Throughout the past 1 hour I’ve been attempting the race Breakneck bolt. I haven’t been able to get less than 34 seconds with the standard engine. This is after almost doing a perfect line ( atleast I think so ), while maintaining the speed boost through the entire race.

I can’t quite figure out if this is intended, so that there’s an incentive to go out and gather the different engines and parts for the cars, or if it’s just a lack of testing the races enough to know what the “average” time would be for players. ( this might also be due to the fact that the normal engine also just got nerfed )

In the latest new PTR build:

D.R.I.V.E.

  • Wheels now animate when you use a Boost and at a standstill.
  • Fixed some unintended behaviors that occurred while attempting to drift while falling.
  • Fixed a bug related to the Breakneck acting as though it’s falling when it’s really only going over small obstacles.
  • Fixed an issue with Drift, when falling short distances, that would cause players to instantly lose drift. Drift now only cancels on longer falls and resumes upon landing.
  • Fixed an issue that would lead to persistent strafing and could occur when certain key-combinations were pressed while dismounting.
  • Fixed an issue with drift that could lead to Drift key being temporarily sticky and not disengage until stopping.
  • Fixed some rare instances of disconnection related to jumps and falls while on the G99 Breakneck.
