FEEDBACK: new Goblin models

This is after all why we have this post, we do not know what they consider finished and it is important to start as early as possible to voice what we believe should be adjusted. Nobody is worked up here, we are simply sharing our first observations of what we know and see.

Just saying before people come in and rage their trousers off!

The eyebrows do seem to be working on skin option 1 (faces 6-10 won’t load the correct textures, but the eyebrows tied to them will still load), might just be wowhead’s modelviewer that isn’t working. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s really exciting that it’s finally happening, but I’m a bit worried too, since I’ve invested so much time in my goblin. That said, I think the female model is looking great so far, they look pretty identical from behind.

I reckon they’ve probably focused a lot on the worgen so far, since the males had loads of janky animations, and the females… they needed a lot of work. A lot of work on updated goblin animations was probably already done or adaptable from work on the vulpera models too, so I’m not expecting a rush job.

Still no face rigging yet, but the faces are looking much better with the in-game lighting (and eyebrows)!

Indeed, the in game lighting definitely helps it look better. Can’t wait till the PTR goes live to know what the actual deal is for now since you can’t rely on the dressing room view after all. Anybody knows what is the usual waiting time between downloading the PTR and servers going up?

It’s not just the lighting, wowhead model viewer is buggy as hell and even to this day, some things are just not shown properly.

Like face morphs, which make for a huge part of what the faces look like ingame, yet people compare these unfinished ones even.

To sum it up - DON’T USE WOWHEAD MODEL VIEWER FOR FEEDBACK, IT’S NOT WORKING PROPERLY, even for models that have been in the game for years.

Thanks for the heads-up I never really used wowhead model viewer for anything else but to see how an item looks so was not aware how off or correct those models could be. It’s good to know, because now I’m looking forward to PTR servers going live!

Jinxxie, thank you for the constructive post.

As for me, when I first saw new goblin models! I checked my character in the Wowhead fitting room and was delighted. From eyes, ears and animations.
I liked everything.
BUT! I liked everything until I looked at other faces.
I realized that all the other faces are the same. Faces differ among themselves only in the color of the eyes and lips. This upset me. And the shape of the head became round, lacking any relief in the form of wrinkles / folds.

UPD: After watching the video from the PTR, my opinion has not changed. The faces are the same.

Because each face isn’t rigged yet, it’ll come. c:

Looks way better seeing it with in-game Lightning.

I really like how mine’s turned out so far, but it’ll be interesting to see what changes once the rigging is done. The big thing for me is that they don’t lose their “rough around the edges” charm. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for making this post, im looking forward to the next update ,wich i hoped was coming this week but alas. My peeves atm are the lack of facial rigging, the eyecolors wich seem to have changed or are missing ( mine are purple and lacking) and lack of eyebrows on the females. So far from what i’ve seen the emotive expressions look really good, especially with the females. If anyone is reading this and see’s feedback missing from our posts, be sure chime in slight_smile:

Good point, but at the moment its the only thing i got to work with. I think its good to see posters bring up as much feedback as they can, even when its from the wowhead dressingroom, because if relaid by the community team, it keeps the Dev,'s sharp and ib the loop of the playerbase’s findings

Hey, thanks for joining in with the discussion! I agree the face rigs are very minimal currently. I just didn’t have much energy to do feedback on it as in take fotos and what not. But I noticed that some casters really lacked a facial expression, simply doing their job with a neutral face, yet melee feels fine.

From your reply I see you have not logged onto PTR, it should be accessible for everyone, do you happen to not know how to install it? Let me know, it would be a great way for you to check out also some other things!

So I just tried PTR and the very first thing I noticed with the male goblin model was that the “mixed running animation” is still untouched. What I mean is that when you cast spells / shoot a gun or bow while running the upper body wobbles about like the character was drunk or something.
For some reason I’ve never seen this brought up in the forums, but surely you’ve noticed that in-game?

All goblins look extremely similar. But this treatment was given most if not all new models upon revamp. Look back on the uniqueness of the older models, even the plain humans, and notice how they’ve all been stripped of personality and uniqueness.

Can we not, Blizzard? Please? It can’t be that hard, surely.

a lot sure has changed on them they glow a lot now seem to always be shining , they basically removed the entire fem gobbo coinslot (aka) bumcrack :stuck_out_tongue: the males tho they got a glorious coinslot. from nothing to marianas trench

I think female models are in an amazing place right now aside from some rigging issues which really need sorting out.

HOWEVER, the male faces still really need some work. Male faces have lost most of their choices in eye colours to the point where two of the faces look practically the same. The idea of an update ‘cleaning up’ a model shouldn’t have applied to Goblins as they all generally look far less sleazy and all look quite young now.

Someone seemed to think it would be funny down at Blizzard HQ to have the male Goblin facial animations go from smiles that persist even in combat to this geeky sneer that occurs in one of the idle animations and even in the dance emote which really takes away from the personality of Goblins as being this cocky, sleazy race of people.
