FEEDBACK: new Goblin models

Since there is so much feedback for the new worgen models (including the topic regarding both gobs and worgens) I decided to make a post purely for Goblin related feedback on the new models currently visible in the wowhead dressing room.

Regarding Male Goblins

You can find images with my observations here: https://imgur.com/a/txuFwjO

The main feedback is:

  • Eye colour on face 3 is wrong (it’s supposed to be red)
  • Eyebrows are too high, giving a suprised look instead of the current frown.
  • Pupil is way too bright compared to the rest of the eye.
  • Eye shadowing looks like make-up instead of a natural shadow. (this is also caused by the raised brow)
  • The lines behind the eye looks like female eyelashes.
  • Round features near the eyes make the male gob look more feminine.

Regarding the other male goblin faces, they all look VERY similar and lost all characteristics. For example, the face with yellow eyes had a bit of a ‘physco’ vibe to it and now it looks the exact same as all other faces, except for a few wrinkles and eye colour. Nagrash was kind enough to put together the images, take a look!

Regarding Female Goblins

  • Currently none of the female goblins have eyebrows, eventhough in current wow they do. Ofcourse this could just be a bug in the dressing room.

  • Mouths look very big compared to the previous model.

Here is even more in-depth description how female goblin new models don’t fit the vibe of the old one, thank you Soxxy!

Things I like about the new models

The body looks good, the animations and facial expressions look good. The ears and noses are done really well. The earrings have physics now!
Hair texture and colours look great.
Underwear looks exactly like in the old model just higher quality, which is cool.
Some of the female goblin faces look really cute and well done. (like face 4 looks pretty much identical just better quality)

These have been my observations regarding the new models.
I’d love to see more people join the discussion and share their observations in regards to the new goblin models.

When people bring in more constructive feedback I can add it to the list!

Suicide gobblins are real gobblins - rest are meh.

Thx for the bump?

I would suggest if you want to include a link put in the url, highlight it then use the </> button. At least that way it’s a straight forward copy paste for most of us.

The round/smooth appereance they have gotten in the face is not appealing to me, I like the crude look they had before.

But the male goblin nose was the first that caught my eye, and despite the smooth facial look, I think they have reworked that well.

The body rework both genders have gotten is nice too, they look more sharp compared to before.

@ Punyelf Thanks, fixed!

@ Moothilda Thanks for your observations! I agree the bodies look much better and a lot of detail to the face also looks great, my problem is really just with the eyes.

I’m not blown away by the changes atm. I am not sure if I’m just missing the finer details.

Ever since the global model update alot of races suffer from “Same Face Syndrome” - I’ve made alot of suggestions and/or bug reports about it but alas no fixes yet.

Apparently at Blizzard having a few creases and different eye-colors make for completely new faces. If you take the Orc faces for example and hold a card over the top half you can barely tell the sliders are moving at all.

Here’s to hoping someone at Blizzard visits here, slim as that chance might be, and brings it UP before the patch.

WE WANT MORE CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS.

I’m disappointed they haven’t separated the different facial features so we can select chin and nose separately from the ears. Boooo Blizzard :frowning:

Look at those suicide gobblins from Warcraft 3

One of the best voice acting
Commitment to work
Now a days gobblins forgot their legacy and GREAT ancestor (who made Deathwing armor)
They even forgot what is meaning of “Kaboom”

I was planning to roll a female goblin (tinker :stuck_out_tongue: ) but I am disappointed how the faces look all the same

Afaik Drogbar did the Deathwing armor, not goblins

Agreed. Make goblins had their charm in cata because they changed their model from these toothy grinning idiots into these sleazy guys with a bit of attitude, who still have the big grins, just not so cartoonish.

These faces atm make them look way too cartoonist. Their eyes are way too prominent on every face, which just saps their attitude and replaces it with a less serious vibe. Other races retained their general core in their updates mostly. Goblin makes have had theirs sabotaged slightly I feel.

I mean the faces aside, stupendous stuff. But their faces are just not working for me right now. Why are their eyes so freaking shiny? They’ve gone from squinty eyed geezers to bug eyed ones. Did they go along the lines of the nightborne allied race transfer or something? Give them back their sleaze.

Made an image for myself to look at the male faces side by side(figured I might aswel upload it), and it’s like Jinjo said the old ones show way more attitude. Not sure why they decided to change some of the eye colors either, bit unnecessary tbh.

Female goblin feedback:

I put this together to get a better impression of how Soxxy will look, since eyebrows are messed up on wowhead (eyebrows show on skin 1, correct face textures for faces 6-10 show on skins 2-9). Still the wrong skin colour, but oh well.

I think our lips are a bit too large, and our chin/jawline looks a bit chunkier than they used to. My eye colour has changed quite a lot, going from what looked like a red-brown to a very light brown. Eyes are looking a bit baggier than I imagined, I didn’t think my face looked that tired.

I think the casting/combat face animations could use some facial expressions similar to this pose from the Blizzcon preview, which has a lot more attitude than they currently do. The current facial expressions seem more pissed than someone with a pocket full of gizmos and grenades ought to be.
I also can’t help but notice the Blizzcon preview model’s eyebrows matched their hair colour, would be a nice option to have somewhere.

We seem to be experiencing distortion on chest/shirt/tabard slots, as they seem to be positioned higher than they were previously. Spitfire Breastplate exposes a lot of underboob as a result, while just about every other chest slot is less revealing than before.

I really like the burp at the end of the /eat animation. The /bow and /flex animations are great too.

Expanding ear/nose/chin combinations, or splitting them into separate customisation options would be absolutely fantastic for goblin characters as a whole. I really like the skull earring option, but it’s only available with a super pointy nose.

Also, now is as good a time as ever to continue my campaign of asking for a pink hair for goblins. Deadmines goblins, Darkmoon Faire goblins , and a few more NPCs I can’t remember off the top of my head, have taunted us with their pink hair since Cataclysm. I’m aware that player death knights have access to that colour, but I believe there should be a universal option for all goblins. Players of both factions deserve equal opportunities to be ganked by short, pink haired rogues.

The goblin ear and nose separation has bugged me for ages. There are some noses on fobbos that are just not to my liking, because they come with piercings as a package deal. Eg. The first male goblin nose has to have the nose ring, and its the only one with fairly “standard” goblin ears E. G they’re not flappy, curly, shorter or loaded with piercings.

Playing a male panda makes me see how this can be done. How many facial hair options do I have? Somewhere close to 20 I think. This is because male pandas have just about every beard combination with and without the option of bushy eyebrows which allows me to pick the fine details (not that I would make a panda without eyebrows, jigh ugh). All goblins should have each base nose/ear combo without piercings as a choice.

It always confused me when goblins were released why so many of their options were loaded with facial piercings and ear piercings. This was never a goblin thing in any artwork, yet the ones we play seem to majority be major body mod enthusiasts. It’s especially annoying for female goblins who can’t select a single option with a smaller nose which doesn’t cake their nose in studs. Clean options would be cool.

@ Jinjo I completely agree with you, it is very awkward how we are told what nose has to have what ears ect.

Also I don’t know why I did not see it earlier but now I notice that I can make a forum post in the PTR discussion. Could anyone help me with, what should I do in order to get this topic moved to the PTR discussion? I’m sure it would get better attention there.

I like the new look, but you must remember: THIS IS THE FIRST BUILD FOR THEM.

They aren’t even FINISHED, I mean, the goblin females dont even have their eyebrows yet! They also haven’t added the face rigging that makes their faces look different yet.

Calm down, they aren’t finished. Yes, keep giving Feedback, but do remember: They aint done by a mile.
