After six hours of testing, I can share some thoughts on this rework.

The intention was to provide the possibility to play a full fire build, a lightning build, and a mixed elemental build.

I wish that were true.

The full fire build used to be “press a button,” but at least it was fluid and thematic. Now, there are many downtime moments to fill with Lighitng bolt. If you take Icefury, you deal more damage, but the flow is broken and not smooth.

The full lightning build, by default, requires you to alternate with Lava Burst; otherwise, your DPS is like that of Donald Duck. To deal more DPS, you need to take Icefury, and here again, you’re using all elements, so what kind of full lightning build is this?

The mixed build doesn’t exist since you have to take Icefury to do more DPS, and even then, you’re still behind other DPS classes.

Maybe we’ll see a better attempt in ten years when they try another rework.

I didnt have time to test the ele spec yet but from what i read the icefury seems to be mandatory either way because of the interractions. The choice is probably either to go fire/ice or full elements build i think. Maybe i am wrong

Not going to lie but when I was reading the new talents the first thing I noticed was that while it all looked very thematic and cool the overall rotation seemed like it would be complete rear to play with. I don’t have beta so I haven’t tried it yet but just reading the talents made me feel like you’d have to do some weird stuff in order to get the numbers.

Supatease made a video about the elemental shaman rework. Said in the video that the spec plays different to dragonflight and not in a good way, said it feels very rough. Basically you are a mage without blink or a warlock without the tankiness, hardcasting everything.

I ll be honest i tested it my self yesterday and its MUCH better and funnier gameplay than in DF. The awkward casts of icefury are done. The rotation seemed fluid. I think the lava surge procs are just bugged as most of the things are. It rly procs low.
One thing i hate is Liquid magma totem 1min cd STILL… almost unusable… 15-20sec max should it be…

Supatease doesn’t main Ele. Watching him talking about it made me cringe. His build is awful so no wonders he is maelstrom and proc starved.

My issues so far are:

-Healing Surge being undertuned
-Elemental Blast hitting a bit too hard (potential nerf coming)
-Tempest… (probably the biggest). It feels like you’re punished not rewarded when it procs. First of all it doesn’t work with Stormkeeper and can randomly proc during your burst window so you have to cast it first and then use Lightning Bolt. Second of all it deals less damage than Lightning Bolt (nice upgrade). And the worst part now… when you have Tempest proc that talent procing Stormkeeper every 50 sec doesn’t work.

The only way to play Stormbringer for me now is to macro every damage spell with /cancelaura Tempest so you remove the buff and can play it normal. Tempest needs either to replace Chain Lightning or become separate spell imo.

I was really hoping they would make a pure lightning or fire build but they seem to have put some talents in places that would prevent this and force you to take them.

What I don’t like about the lightning build is how you are forced to take either echo of the elements or icefury as your 8th talent to progress down the the tree and that means you then have to either start using lava burst just to activate icefury procs when its off cooldown or waste a talent point to get a extra lava burst that you don’t wanna be using when doing chain lightnings/lightning bolts.

Same for fire build, you have to take some lightning focused talents like flash of lightning just to get to icefury.

They should have swapped echo of the elements and flow of power on the right side and swelling mealstorm and flash of lightning on the left side.

Also don’t like how icefury is only procced by lava burst now but the current dragonflight icefury could be used in both fire and lightning builds because of its follow up choice node talents buffing your next lava burst by 20% or giving you 15% more nature damage to 3 targets hit.

Also not a fan of having Mountains will fall and echos of the great sunfering locked behind ascendance or elemental equilibrium as a lightning build because then you’d be needing to use lava burst again in your rotation…

Also not happy to see power of the mealstorm talent in the middle of the tree forcing you to take that to unlock stormkeeper as lightning build or ascendance as a fire build. Means more using fire spells.

I don’t mind these abilities being in the tree for those who want to have a mixed fire/lightning build but to place them so that we are forced to have to use lightning abilities as fire build or fire abilities as lightning build is not fun

Was also kindda hoping they would either half the cooldown on liquid magma totem or make it so that it applies flame shock to more enemies than just 3, when your tank pulls 2-3 groups in a mythic+ and its 8-12 mobs its a real pain to try and apply flame shock to so many adds before you start casting lava bursts.

Also not a fan of the new lava surge where it procs less the more enemies affected by flame shock because it too forces you to use lightning spells in aoe as fire…

Thunderstrike ward and earthen rage both deal weak damage.

Chain lightning has had its mealstorm generation halved from 4 to 2 per target hit making it much harder to generate than it used to be while the fire build seems to have a lot less of a problem generating it

While I do enjoy the stormbringer hero talents it feels like tempest is too weak. For instance while I’ve not yet tested every class as I don’t have the time for it atm, on my shaman tempest deals 114k damage to the main target and 80k to others nearby. While my warlocks ruination hero talent will do 550k, 1.1 mil crits up to 8 targets hit and they are both the same item level.
