FEEDBACK: The new Headless Horseman event

The Good:
I love the new mechanics of the fight, no more chasing the darn head all over the place makes for a much nicer and smoother fight.

The BAD:
Making the battle pet Arfus a bloody stupidly low and ridiculously RNG dependant drop. There is NO REASON that the pet could not have been purchasable as well as a drop, that way we could have saved up and if he didn’t drop by the last day, we could have bought him. By making him drop dependant, you are just pissing off your customer base and ensuring people stop playing because they’re getting tired of nice stuff always being ridiculously difficult to get.

I have no problem with it being a “chase” item, rather than a purchase able item.

But I do expect it to have dropped by now. It’s a low value drop and isn’t worth 2 weeks worth of farming to get. And I’m beginning to lose interest. I’d rather just play the game, and gambling with low RNG drops.

yeah, I mean this game is “supposed” to be “fun” but this is most definitely not “fun”

Could not agree more: there should be some bad RNG protection system! Pure gambling is bad.

Done it 3 times (1 time a day) so far with only 1 toon, got the pet 2nd kill, and dragon customization on 3rd kill.

Had no idea any of them dropped from the event, then read up on it and promptly bought the key from AH for ~150g.

Wish you the best of luck in chasing the items.

I mean … if someone is pissed because it doesn’t drop one collectible … maybe the game is not for them anymore.

It depends on what you call fun.

Whilst I do enjoy collecting Cosmetics. I do find the way they are being just wildly thrown about at the moment is killing the joy in collecting them. But likewise, I don’t find gambling for low RNG particularly fun either.

I enjoy collecting cosmetics through completing challenges and playing the game, so to speak.

It would be nicer if these things had higher drop rates. I’m hoping I still manage to get it while the event is running.

Only had the key so far, no Arfus or manuscript.

people can be pissed about small details if that’s important for them.

about the pet, they did the same thing with tyrael’s charger & diablo event, highly rng dependant mount, then they added it to trading post so maybe the pet can be added in the future as well

That’s a good point, would be lovely if they did that. I don’t care about the customisation or mount, just want the good boy

(I did get the mount this morning. While wanting the pup. There’s no pleasing me I guess lol.)

Whilst I do enjoy getting loot drops, I have to agree that being able to purchase them eventually is infinitely better. So why not both? If you then get the drop after purchase, assuming you’re still bothering, you can just gift it to someone else in the party.

It’s all about not feeling rewarded for the time you put in and the time these items are available.
It’s still baffling to me that a seasonal event gets these kind of drop rates.

My opinion is this: RNG rewards are a fundamental part of WoW. As much so as questing, levelling and raiding. There is a line we cross if we remove RNG or raise the drop rate too much, which is that WoW is no longer OG WoW. It’s a soft reboot of WoW which is untethered from its traditions. There are many good rewards in the game that can be targeted and achieved without RNG playing a role. 95% of pets fall into this category. If you are so desperate to have a reward, you should accept that you may need to farm it over many holidays to get it.

I know this won’t win me many friends here, but this complaining strikes me as entitlement. Players who think they have an automatic right to every reward that’s available in the game because they pay their sub. Now, I can see why many players see that as a reasonable position to take, and I’m sure there are many games that work that way (you can buy all possible rewards by tokens you can buy irl), but WoW is not one of those games.

But perhaps gaming culture has now changed too much from the days when the game was created. Back then, microtransactions were not really a thing. We just accepted that if we wanted cool in-game items we had to follow the rules of the game. But in 2023 the near-universal presence of microtransactions in games has raise expectations. Microtransactions only work as a concept if players can buy the coolest items. For WoW to make this impossible by having elite-level rewards and RNG rewards with low drop rate… well, maybe that’s swimming against the tide. Maybe if WoW is going to get back to its popularity peak, the devs need to accept that OG WoW is no longer fit for purpose, and that all attractive rewards should be easy to obtain.

One thing I would warn players about is that by coming here to complain about how hard it is to get rewards through playing the game, they are encouraging WoW to introduce microtransactions into the game.

We’re only 5 days in. Still plenty time to get it. And the drop rate seems higher than the love rocket atleast…

10 runs every day since the beginning of the event, no pet so far.
Hope I’ll get him, hope I’ll get him…

Meh, got another Arfus.
Bit useless when you can’t trade it to the people you grouped up with.

Edit: Thought I was posting in the other thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

95 runs so far, all in “hard” mode which is supposed it increase your drop chance and still no pet. This has become the epitome of the crap that Blizzard keeps pulling and it makes the game cease to be fun so I’ll probably take my hundreds of dollars spent in WoW/D4/DI each month and give it to another company cos after 19 years, I’m sick of this crap
