Felguard is worse than Imp, and costs a rune slot

So title says it all pretty much.

Felguard is worse than Imp, and not by a small margin.

Imp gives you:

  • +49 Stamina buff for your entire party (AND the Imp)
  • More Spellpower from Demonic Knowledge as a result
  • More Spellpower from Demonic Pact as a result (For the entire party)
  • More DPS for both your pet and yourself. (And your party)
  • Fire Shield (Slightly worse than Thorns).
  • Aaaand does not cost a Rune slot…

Felguard gives you:

  • A pretty cool charge for pvp that stuns for 3 seconds.
  • Some situational cleave (still lower DPS than Imp overall).

Can we perhaps hire someone else to do balancing for SOD?

Just some quick showcase as an example of the dps, it gets worse in raid from my experience, and if you want to check Warcraftlogs youll see that as well.

Yes it is a shame.
To justify taking away a rune slot the felguard should deal at least 1,5x dps of succubus/imp.

It stays up longer in fights than an imp does.

True, this clearly justifies taking away a rune slot!

… NOT.

Stay up longer where ? In pve he dont have aggro/threat, in pvp soul link giving him 30% of your dmg so he can have 1000k armor still will get 30% of dmg done to you and die fast. In pve he doesnt hold aggro. Ok they should give him aggro like hunter pet and now will be ok rune for pve, as a private tank, but at this moment demons role is only dmg cuz then dont build any aggro/threat and cant tank, all dmg we takin on chest not demon. So where he stay longer ?

u can get a buff when they nerf drain life’s range but for now no melee dps can touch u guys with the imp dealing 1300 dps alone  i dont get why ur crying when ur prob one of the best pvp classes in the game rn if we dont count mage and spriest

Nobody cares about pvp here… it is a big oneshot fest anyway.
We talking about raid dps!

Boss fights, more hp can stand in bad areas.

raid are pretty much one shots with how little hp the bosses have now

But imp is ranged, so more safe than felguard in centre takin whole aoe dmg…

imp deals 0 dmg when oom and he ooms after 30s of fight. he just afks because can’t hit melee. Also you need 5 talent points if you use him in build. so it’s not so simple. if you go destro you can take felguard if you don’t stay in melee range with immo aura and take other talents like improved lifetap to faster mana recover so better overal DPS. in summary if you don’t play PvP you should have 2 destro speces: with imp for short fights and with improved lifetap and felguard for longer fights. at the end of phase when sunken will be faceroled with pugs imp build will be better

Im not gonna argue with a dude with 0 logs be quiet thanks.

Got resolved… imp (and all other demons) now get also a portion of mana when the warlock casts lifetap.
Imp now even more powerful than felguard than before

" * Felguards summoned by Warlocks are now given an appropriate demon name." You got your buff today enjoy!

I like him because he is a good solo players pet, other than that he lacks utility, this is very true.

He also suffers from mana issues which can limit his ability to hold aggro and maintain decent damage output, in the TBC (and upwards) version(s) where he was a Demonology only pet I made sure to take the talents which caused my demons to benefit from Life Tap so I could keep him topped up. That doesn’t exist here so perhaps he should have this link by default in this version.

In a later expansion he also came with a Bladestorm like ability, perhaps they could look at adding this or something similar to improve his raid/instance DPS and allow better AoE pulls out in the world.

Edit, only just seen this:

Warlock

  • Life tap now grants mana return to warlock pets as well

Yay!

Felguard isn’t worse than Imp. It does more damage throughout Sunken Temple in all scenarios, AOE and singletarget.

Imp will be with the new change to life tap. That said I don’t think felguard needs any buffs, or it’ll become way too strong in PvP, where it currently performs very well as demo. I’m fine with imp being stronger, seeing as how you need to invest points into it.

It terms of PvE - felguard better for horde, imp better for alliance
Im terms of PvP - felguard is just better lol
Btw why would you run meta in open world :frowning: ?

Felguard literally is worse yes. You obviously havent looked at warcraftlogs.
And for some reason they just decided to BUFF Imp :joy:
I swear they have a monkey sitting there with a BUFF and a NERF button, and then they present it with spells and it just hits one of the buttons :joy: There is no way they have an actual human being balancing these things.

Imp is better dps overall. Check warcraftlogs.
I prefer Imp in PvP because you are way tankier with it (500 hp more) + it offers better dps and more pushback. Also its ranged so you dont get punished as hard on aoe fears from priests etc. But yea Felguard certainly has its advantages also.
Because I can pull 3 mobs on repeat with no downtime and why not

Issue of Imp is going OOM, but that is going to be resolved in next patch. Other than that it is much easier to buff imp (because most of buffs come from you), while Felguard needs full raid buffs (including battle shout and STR totem so you need to be in melee party) in order to even come close. Even with full raid buffs he is going to be hitting for 200 damage every 1.5 seconds (including cleave) with full demo talents while imp can hit for 200 every second if you put 3 talent points into tier 1 demo talent and 2 talent points into tier 3 destro talent.

I think if someone goes deep demo Felguard should scale better than other pets, maybe give him double effect of unholy power, or unlock demonic frenzy (TBC/WOTLK stacking AP buff) or even Felstorm when you put points into Demonic Sacrifice or Soul Link or Master Demonologist. Or give him bonus attack speed and CC reduction if you put points into improved subjugate demon (to make the talent usefull). Something, some sort of scaling to make demo dps viable. At least give him bit more base damage than Succubus (used to be +20 at lvl 50 in TBC).
