C’mon then, seen a few of you mention it, any fellow artists about?
Musicians/painters/concept artists/animators/3D modellers/writers etc?
I’m a guitarist/singer, but mainly an all-arounder due to my ADHD (I get bored sticking to one thing), studied music tech at college and use Cubase (Digital audio workstation of choice) to record my own stuff.
Never made any money from it, I’d love to at some point though given a “traditional” job seems to be out of the question for me (again, ADHD).
I know I mentioned it, but it was tongue in cheek. I think it’d be too OT as a thread in GD.
There’s a bunch of Discords or Reddits to discuss music with like-minded people if you were so inclined, you might even find people who suffer from the same thing and will be able to give you some specific tips.
Good point, I’m bad at detecting sarcasm sometimes
Guess we’ll wait and see if it gets flagged/removed
Definitely something I am planning, and hell, to bring it to the topic of Wow I’m planning on combining the two, with proof of concepts of how some percussion/guitar/synth in the raid/dungeon’s music could really go a long way towards making them a bit more exciting.(nothing against the music present, but when you’re fighting a boss I feel the music should get you pumped up).
I’ve a long way to go but making music for games’d be a dream come true, both art forms have been paramount to my ability to cope with the struggles of life, especially WoW.
I think a roleplayer is a writer and impro-preformancer/actor and Storyteller
Me neither, tho’ usually my players pay for my drink and pizza when I’m the Storyteller
Could fill dozen books of my notes, stories and concepts… but I guess copyright reasons would prevent me to publish them if I ever would collect them in a book
Built dozens if not houndreds of worlds, woven god know how many stories… created “life”, characters, plots, stories and backgrounds
I’m egoist enough to call myself an artist for this reason
Aye I’d count it, just because it’s someone else’s IP doesn’t dismiss that it’s a creative outlet!
That isn’t you being an egoist, who knows, maybe the stories you’ve written in the Warcraft world could be repurposed to fit into a world of your own making?
I’m sure there are probably plenty of authors that have done that!
In fact, a similar logic applies to a game called “The Forgotten City”, it was originally a skyrim mod that branched out and got developed into it’s own full game, there’s plenty of games that have done that so I don’t see how the same couldn’t happen in novels!
It’s no small feat to be able to dream of other worlds and imagine entire cultures, I often find most people can’t actually do it.
And World of Darkness (Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Mummy, Kinderd of the East, Demon, Changeling), Star Wars, D&D, Shadowrun not to mention a few obscure ones
I’m an illustrator and animator (with an actual degree!), but I work as an Art Director, designing courses for pilots and maintainers of military aircrafts
I do design my own things in my free time though, nothing aviation related of course - that’s only to pay the bills. I do draw mainly 2D things with pens, inks and the like, but I can 3D model a bit too with Maya.
I also enjoy HTML5 and CSS to do some web design.
Damn dude! that’s a pretty impressive skill set you’ve got there.
I’m hoping to try my hand at digital art soon, wanna go into Wow content creation (seems like a better time than any and it’s something I’m genuinely excited about) so, I’ll need to make myself some nice art and learn how to edit images/video.
Same here. Used to be an illustrator but couldn’t manage to turn it into money making machine, even did some wow fan art back in the day. Now I’m working as an art director at a marketing agency. Can’t say I absolutely love it since I’m not a big fan of ads but it’s not that bad. It would be lit to work on games though, that’s where my passion is. Maybe someday.
Thanks! It actually sounds bigger than what it is, I just happened to end up in that market but it’s like any other. I do get to design some kind of simple video-games in 3D, to teach pilots or maintainers how to do a procedure, so it’s fun as well!
It’s all practice anyway, I had it easier cause I studied it both in high school and at university, but it isn’t something you can’t learn yourself if you’re dedicated enough! Good luck
Self-independet content writer and digital artist here. Currently focussing on a project about gamification in web content in order to create a sustainable digital community environment.
It is. Only wish I had more time for it. Writing for a living and realising side projects very often crashes your time plan. Thinking back to those days where I wanted to become an author for fantasy novels. Alas, the naive dreams of youth…
I am extremely untalented and spent every art class in highschool counting how many minutes of the 45 minute class duration remain and trying to keep my mind occupied so as not to die of boredom.
But if you post something you create, I will gladly look at it/listen to it and give you my refined opinion of someone whos idea of culture is watching “Wife swap”.
