Feral healing on General Vezaxx 10m HM

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to effectively heal General Vezaxx HM on 10m as a Resto Druid when my partner is a Discipline Priest. Lifeblooming from puddles is way too slow and actually I lose mana that way instead of regenerating it (because I frequently have to go out of the puddle to actually emergency burst-heal the tank which costs a lot of mana. Sadly, hots ain’t cutting it and much more healing is needed). Omen of Clarity is also disabled on that fight for a Resto Druid.

I’ve seen some videos about ferals healing that fight and I have several questions about that:

  1. Can I just go Feral and keep my Resto gear on to have forced Clearcastings from Fearie Fire (Feral)?
  2. How many talents in Feral tree are needed for the game to register me as Feral and allow me to get Clearcasting procs?
  3. Does Improved Leader of the Pack regenerate mana on Vezaxx like Judgements of the Wise, Shamanistic Fury or Aspect of the Viper?
  4. Is there any sort of hard-healing reduction for a Feral druid like there is for Retri Paladins or Enhancement Shamans?

Thanks for answers in advance.

Standard Feral DPS here so take my PoV with a grain of salt, but I can provide you with some info at the very least.

  1. I believe most people who Restocat do so in dedicated Resto gear, yeah.
  2. Uncertain on the specifics, but most I’ve seen only go as far as Imp. LotP (so 33 at a minimum.) That said I have no idea if that alone is enough for the game to consider you Feral for the sake of Omen.
  3. In form, yes.
  4. No. You heal at full value.

Thanks for answer.

That would mean I can safely stay in my usual Resto Gear and just make dedicated feral talents for that fight.

I was thinking about going even deeper into Feral tree for the King of the Jungle to have Shapeshifting practically free. That way I could just force Clearcasting via Fearie Fire in Cat Form every 6 seconds to keep my HoTs rolling, and all this almost for free.

Main resto druid here.

You should stay under boss and forget about lifebloom completely. Put Reju on tank and use swiftmend when he falls under 50% health. If someone messes up mark - heal that only with Wild Growth. You heal that way until Hard Mode stacks begin to hurt, but - it shouldn’t be the case since this add dies rather quickly.

IF your tank is poorly geared then you can go restocat for Imp. LotP - then you just burn mana, then switch back to cat to restore it.

Still, with dpriest there shouldn’t be much problem.

Only issue with going as deep as King of the Jungle is that you would forfeit Swiftmend by doing so.

My instinct tells me that you’re probably better off with 0/33/38 and digging as deep into Empowered Rejuvenation as you can. Doubly so if you’re needing to pump the tank since you then have some play in investing into Nourish support via Tranquil Spirit/Nature’s Bounty.

I’m no Resto Druid though, you do you. = P

Only disc priest stays in puddles the other healers either stay under the boss or dodge the puddles

they gain no benefit from them unlike disc priests  Also never use lifebloom on this fight… only reju on tank when he drops press swiftmend then wildgrowth on mark group and last phase just reju everyone. pretty much it

The tank gets a lot of dmg during Surges and a hot + Swiftmend is nowhere near enough to keep him up. Each Surge costs me a lot of mana to get through. By the time Animus spawns I am low on mana, and by the time it dies I am completely OoM. Thankfully our group is greatly geared and we finish Vezaxx quickly after, but with a worse group I’d be in serious trouble. Whereas, when I heal with my main (a Hpally), this fight is extremely easy and boring. Even poorly geared tank gets healed for half the mana I spent on my Druid. Not even saying I have 50% more max mana.

I feel like what I am doing now is not consistent and only gear of my group carries me through this. That’s why I am looking for more consistent setup which appears to be Restocat.

Lifebloom restores mana even on Vezaxx. When you stay in the puddle, its cost is greatly decreased but you regain mana as if it was casted at full cost.

But for what do you want mana in exchange for a bad spell that heals effectively worse than reju does?

Because they’re currently OOMing themselves trying to keep the tank up.

You can heal normally, jump in the puddle, stack Lifebloom and jump out and continue healing normally. Lifebloom will heal little to nothing but will regain mana and a lot actually. The only problem is it takes a lot of time to jump in, stack 3, jump out and wait till Lifebloom final tick comes.

Do you use living seed spec? Also mana hymn works for 8+ seconds of free casting.
Well I never had trouble on the boss on how I said I play but it could always be a tank issue or dps issue on end.

Do you one or two tank?

1 tank, we do whole HM Ulduar as 1 tank. As I said earlier, I am a Holy Pala main. We have 0 problems when I am on my pally. I just wanted to play my alt and my group allowed me to. But they are definitely not going to adjust the setup just because I want to play an alt. That’s why I must help myself somehow.

Tank should use defensive cooldowns and since you have dpriest - Pain Suppression.

I also healed with dpriest and I did 4 times more healing on tank so basically I solo healed him. Didn’t need to go restocat.

No. In WotLK if a pool gives you buff/debuff it isn’t removed instantly, so you actually need to wait 1-3 seconds more before doing healing again. Not to mention you can screw shadow crashes by doing that.

This too. It’s way better than that overrated 3% bala haste xD

Well thats how I play it out and probably most other druids aswell. There can be alot of factors be it too low dps or tansk randomly getting hit more than usual or simply other healer not putting in full weight.

That said you can absolutely heal in feral spec with resto gear and I am sure you also will trigger clearcasts that way

That’s what I wanted to know  Definitely going to try that out. Thanks.

I feel like free, instant cast Healing Touches will make up for it. In between surges there is nothing to do anyways so I can stack up combo points.

Spam the raid with LB and not only the tank.

Are you solohealing or duo healing it?

If you are duo healing it you should not run out of mana. If you solo heal it, then yea. Restos suck at solo healing. And you pretty much need a tank healing spec for it to work on that fight.
If you duo healing it none of you should run out of mana unless the tank suck. If you have JoL let that heal the DPS.
Use one healer at a time, wait untill the first healer reach ~50 Mana, then switch to the other and when that one hits 50% you switch again etc. It usualy works best as you wont overheal eachoter then. And dont throw big heals when tank is above 50-60%.

Also, if your tank have issues surviving the surges, just kite it.

Thanks for reply.

I’ve already tried the Resto cat and I must say, that’s a whole galaxy of difference. Having on-demand Clearcasting every 6 seconds made my tank be HoTed all the time, get big burst heals during Surges and my mana didn’t drop below 100% till Animus. And even after Animus, when I fully healed normally without going Cat, I still ended up with more than 50% mana left.

How did you manage that? Shifting still cost mana.

102 mana with King of the Jungle talent. I’ve decided to not go Swiftmend, and rather do instant cast Healing Touches instead.

Fascinating discussion, but yeah like some people have said there should be no mana issues healing with any healer combo really.
I’ve never had any issues standing under the boss and using rejuv and swiftmend+nourish on demand. Ignoring regrowth and lifebloom completely for that fight.

Just have to be careful to only cast heals that are actually necessary, I do carry an assortment of intelligence optimized gear pieces just for that fight though to have a bigger manapool. If your healing partner is a potato though who wastes his mana then I can see there being quite a bit of issues.
