Few Questions about Alterac

Hey folks, personally I find Alterac to be one of the more interesting of the human kingdoms and I wonder why hearing or seeing anyone from Alterac is so rare. Ooc commitments prevent me from forming an alterac only guild although that may change in time.

So I was wondering what the general consensus is on Alteraci in the alliance today. I have in my travels come face to face with the stigma that all people from alterac are traitors not just the king and his supporters. One could point out that General Hath who was in command of the Alterac army stood aside and did not protest the arrest of his own king, proving that at least some alteraci remained loyal.

If your own character hails from alterac i am interested in hearing why you choose such a background and how it shaped your future!

Because there’s been few developments towards it. In Vanilla, it fell to the Syndicate and Ogres and AFAIK 14 years later the situation is the same.

Owl here is from Alterac and he’s more or less bitter at the Alliance and those whose origin lie in Northern Kingdoms for the poor treatment they received post-war which led to the eventual destabilization and downfall of Alterac.

Most people react negatively towards them with good reason for their part in aiding the Horde as they didn’t see victory during the Second War. Only some people who are sympathetic or believe the past is the past are likely to ignore your kingdom of birth.

I chose Alterac personally because it fit my characters backstory; deposed family who supported Perenolde then refused to yield to Lordaeron and were inevitably hung for their crimes leading him to join the Syndicate and other Alteraci noble rebels in the hopes of seeing the Kingdom reborn. If you want a “noble-villain” character then Alteraci is the best way to go.

While i’m not in their guild because they’re scum-sucking Alliance loyalists: there is already an Alterac-only guild. `https://www.argentarchives.org/node/207824

My knight hails from Alterac. What’s important to remember is that while King Perenolde betrayed the Alliance in the Second War, General Hath of Alterac sided with the Alliance in the end and helped fight the Horde.

With Alterac being absorbed into the Alliance through its lands being annexed by Lordaeron and Strom, some who follow Hath’s example might be more open to being in the Alliance. In the comics we see the Barony of Mordis in Alterac being free from the Syndicate’s influence.

My Knight fled to Kalimdor during the Third War as a young refugee so he’s indebted to the Alliance through Theramore, Jaina and now Kul Tiras. Someone recently told him to take the best of both worlds instead of being dragged down by Alterac’s legacy. Something about the circumstances of your birth being irrelevant and it’s what you do with your life that determines who you are from Pokemon.

Nice backstory!

Also never knew there was an alterac guild, will be sure to hit them up!

Well, they are few cause of the various events happened, like the betrayal of Perenolde, being besieged by ogres, and many turning to syndicate undee Aliden’s banner, yet there are alliance/ hath loyalists around, which may or may not try to redeem alterac’s name, or evenay try to plan and retake their home, after hillsbrad events of cata, and Alterac being horde controlled by Horde in bfa (saw in wowpedia, most likely taken from mission tables)
Also look for the guild Eagles Talon, which are bunch of Alteracis whom are Alliance loyalists and fight for it’s name, led by a good friend Kanista
Also the guild Holy war is led by an Alteraci and is more anti-horde, but perhaps they have some Alterac influence cause of their leader

Good luck and have fun!

I think the Eagles Talon are exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

Ms. Levey is Alteraci and considers Perenolde’s betrayal of humanity to the Horde and the subsequent removal of Alterac from the world map to be an eternal reminder to distrust nobility and the alleged right to rule by blood. The self interest of nobles could risk and doom all of mankind. She believes that the gnomes got it right with their model of rulership by election and merit.

A very interesting insight, distrust of nobility seems like a logical stance to take, thank you for sharing <3

It’s largely gotten to the point where it’s self-fulfilling now. People treat Alteraci like crap because they think they’re liars and traitors, which inevitably leads them to be liars and traitors. But, as with every race, there are exceptions willing to stand against the prejudice and shine on through.

As for why people don’t really play them, as was said before, nothing’s really been done with Alterac since Vanilla. And nothing really can be done about it from a technical viewpoint because it’s in the middle of a continent. Though Alterac was one of the smallest of the seven kingdoms, all it has in game is Alterac City, which is the size of a large fort, and one village, Strahnbrad.

Perenolde is a bit of an enigma to me. Yes, he betrayed the Alliance, but he only did it to try and protect his kingdom. He never wanted to be in it in the first place. He just got scared that all the big boys were forming a gang to stop the bullies and he’d be an easy target for said bullies if he didn’t join as well. And if he didn’t join and the Alliance won without Alterac, it may have become a target for the Alliance itself, given they were all friendly with Trollbane and Stromgarde, who had warred with Alterac for ages about their shared mountainous border.

He kind of shot himself in the foot when he traded the Book of Medivh to the Horde in return for them ridding Alterac of Lordaeron and Stromgarde troops, who were only there in the first place because he’d been collaborating with the Horde, again to try and save Alterac should the Horde win.

Wow this thread totally passed me by, just had it mentioned to me. So hello! I am the GM of an Alteraci themed guild. I have already spoken to the thread’s creator and am glad to say we share ideas and an interest in what I’d say is the most underrated kingdom. I’ve RPed my Alteraci character for a few years now and despite several lore deep dives I am still sometimes learning more, such as the fact Alterac had a fleet master
despite being so landlocked. I think it is a shame Blizzard haven’t taken the opportunity yet to show more involving Alterac as with the other kingdoms. I think bringing in a Forsaken Perenolde is a bit late now though unfortunately though with The Syndicate shown to be still active with the recent Arathi warfront I’m still holding out vague hope that we will see a little more attention.

I’d love to see a couple more Alteraci around in the future but considering how some people are with the ‘flavour of the month’ things, I’m sort of glad Alterac is left as the background, it means those that do take the opportunity to rp them are the ones that will read up on the lore and take the time to think about their character’s standing with things like how they feel toward the alliance or the kingdom’s old nobility.
