FFXIV player thinking about starting/switching to WoW

Hey, so I wondered if I should make the leap, buy the game & subscription, but atm I’m really on the fence and want to ask a few questions directed at people who are familiar with both games:

How solo friendly is WoW compared to FFXIV? Basically, as weird as it may sound, when playing MMOs I will try to reduce interaction with other players as much as possible.

Is there a point in playing if you won’t do raids, mythic(+) dungeons or arena? I’m asking because I read that the game basically tries to funnel you towards this content as fast as possible and that the world/leveling doesn’t even matter anymore.

In FFXIV I’m a WHM main and I would like to replicate that playstyle in WoW and narrowed it down to a disc priest. Are these in a good spot/have solo capabilities?

Is there laid back content like Eureka or Bozja that basically has it’s own community?

And the last one: does WoW have an equivalent to Deep Dungeon (solo) play? Because that’s where I spent most of my playtime in FFXIV.

Thanks in advance for all answers.

I don’t know FFXIV. I tried it once, but didn’t last more than a couple of days. I will try to answer your questions as best I can.

In WoW, you can quest just fine all through the game and at max level without ever grouping up.

It is true that the devs try to funnel you into M+ dungeons, and raids. There is now a new endgame activity called Delves. Delves are like smaller Dungeons that can be completed solo, or by a party of up to 5 players. Delves take 20-30 minites to clear, and can be completed on 8 levels of difficulty for increasingly powerful gear, plus three more levels for achievement.

It is true that world levelling before current expansion has been nerfed to the point of being a nonentity. You can level to the start of the current expansion in a matter of hours. As a new player, you would probably take 10, maybe 15 hours for that, which is nothing in the context of an MMO.

I just looked up White Mage in FF. I don’t see a lot of shields? Disc Priest is all about preventing damage by casting shields before the baddies strike. White Mage, as I look it up, reads more like Holy Priest. But what do I know? You can check out Disc Priest and Hoily Priest guides and gameplay on YouTube.

Both of these specs of priest are always fine as healers in a party, but slow and weak when playing solo.

WoW does not have an equivalent to Deep Dungeons.

If there is anything else you want to know, do please ask!

Hey, so essentially in FFXIV every healer class is supposed to spam damage every GCD until they absolutely have to use healing or else someone dies. It’s funny but the most skilled healers will let their group drop to the max. lowest threshold they can get away with before they heal. If you just stand there waiting for healing to be done you are considered bad and would be yelled at or outright booted if it was a preformed group.

I briefly tried all healers to 10 until I was able to see their specs and it appears that only disc priest truly fits into the “spam ranged dps” category. It’s just that I’m so used to that playstyle lol.

OK, but then … why play a Healer at all if you are not doing group content? Most of your healing capabilities will be wasted.

You could choose a Ranged DPS spec with strong heals, like Balance Druid, with the MASSIVE advantage for a soloer of having a Tank spec available when needed. (Tanks are EZMode for soloing, and necessary for the toughest parts.)

Hey, appreciate your replies. Just to give you an update: I decided to go with WoW Classic Anniversary for now because “Retail” WoW felt a little overwhelming.
