Finally pvp gear seperated from pve!

That’s how they at least function. I don’t want to speculate too much on what Blizzard wishes their role to be in the gearing process, but I don’t think there was any way to fit unrated PvP into the BFA gearing systems in a way that wasn’t going to either undermine itself, or it’s pve counterparts.

Maybe there’s a way to have a conjoined gearing system between the 2 modes of play without it feeling like 1 aspect is getting cheated out on progression, but I honestly can’t think how you’d go about accomplishing that.

All I know, at the end of the day, is that I don’t want M+ and raiding to be a prerequisite to climb beyond even mediocre MMR.
I want to be able to get my character in a place where it feels at least relatively complete for purposes of PvP, without feeling like I HAVE to do endgame PvE to accomplish that. Or in the case of BFA, even begin the journey towards getting my character kitted out.

Determining what constitutes as skill is pretty arbitrary, so I don’t think you can have a reward system that perfectly reflects one’s ability in the game.

If Blizzard deems pvp specific gear to not be the “way”, I’d at least want to see them loosen up the rating requirements on the higher end ilevels, and make the stat lineups more desirable (for purposes of PvP) in the selection.
