After what seems like 200 tries, I finally solo’d Zek on hard mode, with my 613 shadow priest. I’m really pleased with that as I’ve never mained a shadow priest, but I was inspired by Ellipsis’ naked run video. And sincere thanks to him for a few tips too in another thread.
There are loads of pro guides out there, but for anyone out there like me that are more on the ‘decidedly average’ side, here are a few things I learned that helped: -
I’m always desperate to finish casts and take risks to do it. Forget that. As soon as he starts casting, get moving.
Macros help a lot, e.g. target egg cocoon and cast, or target Zek and kick, then target last target.
Weak Auras helped me a lot. One that went off like a foghorn on his heal cast, and one when I got the spittle on me.
I died a lot by over planning where I wanted to run to during his frontals and fear, and sometimes got clipped because I was running diagonally to end up in a good position. Priority number one is getting out of the cast. Worry about position after that. Staying close to Zek helps with this too.
I used a weak aura to help me choose when to spend resources on Zek whilst keeping enough to ensure I would be able to hit the egg with a devouring plague.
I put an extra toolbar on the screen in a handy position, with some of the things I needed for the fight, but that I don’t normally use and weren’t on keybinds.
For me, it was worth changing to the other hero talent tree and getting used to it.
Take a breath and try to relax bit. If you get into a pattern it’s much easier. But don’t get over confident. I died a lot when I got too confident and started to prioritise DPS over mechanics.
Practice makes perfect (or at least better). I tried so many times that phase 1 became trivial, and phase 2 was starting to get that way.
It’s all worth it to have Brann spawn little blood orbs and you collect enough to have your own miniature Vectis dance on your shoulder.
For me personally I found it so much easier to use Unholy on DK and concentrate on Zexvir and not the egg. After what seems 2 minutes of concentrating on eggs I was getting nowhere a few talent switches to freedom of movement talents and I was able to pretty much ignore the egg and the spider stuns and use my fear recovery spells to negate if I got caught in Zexvir’s aoe. It was still a close fight, and I destroyed eggs where it was feasible to do so or I just killed the spider but I found not paying the egg 100% attention helped me personally.
I killed it on 610 ilvl and didn’t use any weak auras or anything so it can be done without them but if it’s gonna help you, use them.

Not gonna lie, that happened to me more times than I could count. In the end I think he got so tired of killing me and saying “she will be pleased” that he died of boredom on my last run.
For me as Vengeance DH the only problems are eggs and spiders. I don’t have enough damage to destroy them in time. I have no problem surviving. I tried as Havoc DH, but I don’t really play as this spec and I don’t even have gear to deal damage, although I can somehow survive, the damage is not that great, I feel.
