Fire Mage feedback

Greetings fellow Fire Mage players,

Just want to give feedback and suggestions on Fire Mage in both PvE and a bit of PvP.

  • PvE

The Midnight changes to Fire were ok, at least the philosophy behind it.
Abilities got pruned, we lost Phoenix Flames and Blastwave unfortunately, but I’m digging the new Apex talent and Fire Blast refunding.

Combustion feels amazing, nothing to change here, but again… it was never the issue.

The problem again is the time between our Combustion cooldowns.
This was a problem before and it’s not been addressed at all.
I have fewer Combustion casts now than in War Within and it’s a bit boring, which shouldn’t be.

Here are some suggestions overall :

KEEP IN MIND, I’M EXPLANING FOR CHANGES IN MECHANICS, IT’S UP TO BLIZZARD TO ADJUST NUMBERS ACCORDINGLY.

1) CORE MECHANIC PROBLEMS

Give us something else to do outside of Combustion. Spamming Fireball and praying for a crit is just a miserable experience, not to mention consuming Hot Streak with Pyroblast or Flamestrike doesn’t feel good, it doesn’t hit hard nor contribute to anything. The numbers are abysmal, DPS lower than tanks, and by a large margin. I have two propositions here.

A) Make Fireball always crit (adjust numbers because it’s not the damage portion that we need) or buff Overflowing Energy to give 60% crit chance that stacks, 20% is very low. This will at least give us Hot Streak non-stop and we can at least increase the rate of our Pyroblasts and Flamestrikes outside of Combustion. Adjust Firestarter and Scald for Fireball to do increased damage until the 90% / post 30% mark respectively (if it’s going to always crit.)

RESULT : We’re more frequently consuming Hot Streak outside of combustion and relying less on Fireball RNG crit.

B) Make instant cast Pyroblasts/Flamestrikes reduce the cooldown of Combustion by 1 or 1.5 seconds (this shouldn’t be active while we have combustion). This will shorten the Fireball spam period between Combustions. We lost Shifting Power (good riddance imo) but it was a great tool to get us to the big orange button faster.

RESULT : We get to Combustion faster, while keeping the slow pace outside of Combustion.

2) TALENTS THAT NEED ADJUSTMENTS

Meteor - It needs more interaction with the rest of the Fire Mage’s kit. Not sure how though, it’s a very unusual. We use it just before casting Combustion and that’s it? If you don’t take the extra CD talent, it’s somewhere between Combustion CD periods? Frostfire needs the talent since they benefit a lot from Meteor, but Sunfury? We need to sacrifice Combustion duration to get a stronger Pyroclasm… This isn’t good.

Pyroclasm - It needs serious changes/buffs, it should feel like we’re casting Chaos Bolt. When it procs, make it so that Pyroblast or Flamestrike cast time is reduced by an additional 30% and make sure it always crits, this will help again with the period outside of Combustion and since it always crits, it doesn’t benefit from Combustion (adjust damage numbers obviously).

Left side of the capstone talents are about Ignite and Fire Blasts (that also increase the damage of Ignite), straight middle is a must since it’s Combustion modifiers, but what is the right side about? RNG? Pyroclasm is a proc, Pyromaniac is a proc, Cinderstorm is a proc. All of these aren’t even worth taking comparing to the left side. Cinderstorm could’ve been an active spell instead of another RNG. Again, talking about fun/mechanics not numbers.

Memory of Al’ar - Please either increase the Hyperthermia duration back to 6 seconds or make it 3 but we extend it during Combustion like we had in War Within. It’s too short now.

  • PVP

    Fire is strong in PvP, very strong burst. The gameplay is fine, nothing wrong here.
    I just want some good Fire themed PvP talents.

I just want 1 Fire Mage specific talent that isn’t extremely bad or unfun.

  • Glass Cannon, delete this please.
  • Ring of Fire, revert the changes and give us back the DoT - if it’s too much, have it still replace Ring of Frost so that we can sacrifice CC for extra damage.
  • World in Flames is just good to farm overworld cloth for example.
  • Greater Pyroblast is ok, but the game became so fast paced and interrupts are everywhere.

That’s my two cents I guess. Let me know what you think, or give more ideas on the table. I just want Fire to be fun.

We just got rid of the cdr on combustion, we don’t want it back. It’s terrible for raiding.

if you’re even a TAD undergeared any time between combustion is wasted. you might as well wait untill combustion is up because you wont be able to kill a hecking thing. its hilariously bad.

PVE pov; From someone who enjoyed uptime combust and this current version both had/have issues.
The current one is just something else tho regarding talent trees. The class one is an abomination with no real choice wich forces you to use x3 x4 amount of talent points for less than what other classes are getting (invis/mirror - Ice block debuff reduction? HELLO? what you doing here???). The Spec one doesnt give you meaningful choices. There is pretty much only one way to play it, thats it. ST is mid, Aoe is good starting from minimum 6 targets and 2-3 target cleave is non existant (in a tier full on 2-3 target cleave). We would have talents to adjust this last part but its tuned way too low and they dont bother fixing any of the issues its currently having.
Even with those issues our biggest problem still are defensives. We are fully in the hands of healers for high-end content just because we dont have the tools to respond to all thats coming to us while made out of paper (no passive dr) and lowest health pool

Sadly, Blizzard’s idea of “meaningful choices” just meant forcing us to choose between single-target or AoE.

As you noted, there’s no real choice anyway. Because of how the trees are set up, picking certain talents locks you out of going down other paths for the utility or abilities you actually want.

The removal of all Mage health regeneration makes zero sense when almost every other class has self-heals. I can hop on my alt Druid, spec Feral, and instantly have access to at least two instant-cast heals on short cooldowns.

On top of that, they’ve gone back to nailing Mages to the floor to cast, and as we all know, our damage is an absolute joke outside of Combustion.

Honestly, at this point, they might as well bring back Ring of Power. It’s absurd that modern WoW requires us to run around like headless chickens to handle mechanics, yet still expects us to stand perfectly still to do any damage.

I would simply remove combustion, balance damage uo to increase consistent damage, and make meteor as dps CD (same as ray of frost) - meteor would deal massive aoe damage, give big combustion and give 2 instant cast pyros/flamestrikes, 1min CD.

Or bring back to fire mage Rune of Power on the ground for 12 sec which increases your spell damage by 40% while you stand within 8 yds. !
During Combustion, the 40% spell damage increase is missing. I’d actually make it so Rune of Power isn’t a ground effect, but a passive buff you get after clicking it—no RNG involved

The problem with fire is mastery…moved from TBC talent…they removed all DOT’s and reduced direct damage so ignite don’t feel OP.

No changes in 12.0.5 or 12.0.7… I really hope they’ll do a rework for 12.1

We on May, still not any change or help for the fire mage neither any comment, a little hope that “ they know the problem and are working on it “, no they just dont give a f*.

I struggled to do my +17 and +18, spamming to hope to have a group that invite me, a group enough crazy to take a fire mage, I sometimes spend 1 hour + to have a invite ( real, am not exagerating to shock ).
This morning I log at 10am, its soon 12h, I try to be grouped in a +19 but I get declines on declines, I lost 2 hours of my life trying to be grouped, doing nothing of my time except feeling frustration. Fun game !
And what is even more frustrating is that Blizzard doesnt give a SH, really a SH compagny, I canceled my subb now cause anyway I cannot play, no I dont want to reroll, I like the game cause I like fire mage, I would not like the game playing something else.
I stopped to play last expansions, cause they were SH, I got hyped cause of Silvermoon and Eversongs, I told myself that was a great occasion do have the fire mage back… xD jesus christ, i could not be more in the wrong.
There is plenty of solutions to help fire mages right now, reduction of damages, % of damage deal +, bring back a CD def, some thigns that cost them literally NO WORK or even not any F imagination that they anyway don’t have anymore since several years but no, they dont give a SH xD
I hope Microsoft will fire ( lol ) them all
