Outside of Combustion I often just spam Greater Pyro. Is this a viable way to play and is there a better way to play?
CC is the key! When you don’t really have the burst to land any serious damage, focus on that. Polymorphs/breaths/rings of frost and so on. The team will love you!

In such a case, it depends on the situation. I remember that taking the talent which reduced flamestrike cast time and spamming those flamestrikes in the middle of a large group used to be rather lucrative when it comes to making pressure on the enemy team. Unsure if it got nerfed with BfA or not, someone please confirm this if you play BG’s!
Greater pyro spam is pretty great for random BGs just because it’s harder for healers to heal sudden big blasts.
It also makes target swapping for your team more obvious and easier.
Poly is a must.
Ring is very strong too.
My usual combo is to poly, greater pyro, then metoer. That chunks a good amount of most players.

Your goal is to oneshot with combustion and always play with a class that can stun such as rogue or hpala or otherwise 95% chance your oneshot will fail because you wont land a meteor.
You need 3x blaster master trait though.

For random bgs you can play around a lot, no real definitive build you should run at all times. The Flame On 3x Blaster Master build is great for one shots, but without those traits I’d use Phoenix Flames.

Can always go all-in on the Greater Pyro spamming with Flames of Alacrity and avoid crit like the plague on gear. Stack those enhanced pyrotechnics up for absurd amounts of haste and launch a few Greater Pyro’s with 2,5 sec cast times.
Probably not optimal, but for random bg’s it’s easy to just fool around with strange optimisations.
Ok thanks. I mean my question is primarily about rotation, although build is relevant of course. I was using Phoenix Flames and it was ok, but seemed a bit slower to do damage than Flame On during Combustion at least , so not sure.

With Fire Blast off the gcd and usable while casting it’s always going to be faster burst. Phoenix Flames is more for consistent, instant burst, but if you’re running Blaster Master or Preheat for traits then Flame On is the clear go-to talent.
