Fire mage pvp stats

Hello all,
i have a question about the stat priority for a fire mage in pvp.
On icy vains it says the priority is
1.Intellect;
2.Mastery;
3.Versatility;
4.Critical Strike;
5.Haste.
but, if an item has -100 versa but +40 intellect which one should i wear?

Thank you in advance.

From a plain dps-PoV id suggest to just sim yourself.
But for PvP in general, id say that stat priorities arent really set in stone anyway.

Like, even if haste isnt simming the highest dps, it still speeds up your polly casts etc. Same with versatitlity (since its not only a offensive stat, but reduces incoming dmg as well).

best fire mage EU, just copy his stats/gear/talents

which is blaster master talents on everything, pvp trinkets,

660 crit
1350 haste
400 mastery
900 vers

So haste > vers > crit > mastery

You’re not taking into consideration how haste makes some pieces a lot more valuable than others. Mastery is fairly equal to versa in terms of raw damage while Crit isn’t all too great, but if i get a piece with haste/crit (in that order of stat weights) then i’ll likely still use it over a piece with mastery/haste.

Any crit over 30% is generally wasted because it’s such a small chance for more crits from spells, while enhanced pyrotechnics only gets a boost from every 10% you have.

But yeah, a person should always be skeptical if a site doesn’t show haste as the best or second best stat for a caster in PvP. It’s almost always a sign of the one making the guide having no clue.

The guide in question is specifically PVE, they do have a PVP section but it doesn’t cover stats.

With that said I don’t think haste is guranteed to be the best or 2nd best and that you should dismiss any guide that says otherwise.

It absolutely is for rated PvP. There’s no way two stats out of versa, mastery and crit will outperform it when the benefit from haste is both faster casts and faster gcd’s, both crucial for mage gameplay.

I don’t think i’ve ever seen a PvP season where haste wasn’t the best or second best stat and the times it has been the second best option were when mastery was way overtuned somehow. Of course that’s discounting way back when hit cap and spell penetration were good options.
