Fire Mage rotation help

Hi!

I’m having difficulties with Fire Mage rotation, not so much single target, mainly AoE, and Fire Mages have great AoE apparently. What would I cast in an aoe situation? Basically I try to trigger as many instant flamestrikes and living bomb but my damage isn’t doing much.

Single target is Fireball to trigger heating up, rune of power, follow by combustion, fire blast, pyro, fire blast, pyro, PF, pyro n repeat, is that correct?

Thanks!

Well, it’s either living bomb + single target or flamestrikes. For your gear I’d recommend just going flame patch to begin with and to do this:

Spam flamestrike, even hardcast it if you have nothing else. When a mob is below 30% health, switch to scorching it to get more flamestrikes. Idea is to get as many flamestrikes as possible. Once you have combustion, don’t flame strike at all, execute the single target combustion rotation. It’s a little bit more difficult than what you described, although you were “technically” correct. Here is a picture demonstrating a proper combustion:

And by the way, getting a heating up is not necessary before combustion, just pop it when you can. Idea is to pop it on bigger packs so you get more ignite value. Let ignite do the aoe, don’t flame strike for a while after combustion either, wait for the ignite to die down. Single target until then.

There’s not that much else to it. You’ll switch to the living bomb build once you have sufficient gear for the build: namely enough mastery. But you’ll get pretty far with this only.

Thank you!

When I use flamestrikes, do I use Phoenix Flames and Blasts to get instant ones or save for combustion rotation. I think I have problems with using FB and PF at right times.
I changed Living Bomb to Flame Patch now.

You shouldn’t use Phoenix Flames, go with Flame on instead. Whether you’ll save fireblasts for combustions depends: are you going to be using combustion this pull or the next one? Generally you don’t save them in m+ because they’ll come back up between pulls.

Also, you’ll want to hardcast flame strike at +2 targets with this build and then to use 2 fire blasts during the cast to get a hot streak so you’ll get 2 flame strikes instantly. Just spam flamestrikes. Use meteors as well as rune of powers normally. Remember to scorch if a mob is in execute range, since it’ll be the fastest way to get more flamestrikes out. Notice that if the mobs are moving a lot, you’ll get less value from flame patch so keep that in mind.

Don’t be afraid to chuck a dragon’s breath either when you have to move.

Isn’t it usually best kept for the CC and a pseudo-interrupt, or is that not really necessary nowadays?

Depends on the pack and your party. Most the time in pugs your ok to use it, it’s a short cd. It only on dangerous pulls you want to hold it back.

During aoe with scorch talent, do you use scorch when mobs are on 30% to keep up the flamestrike spam? I was doing flamestrike n such on mobs but my damage wasn’t high.

Yep. 2 scorches is faster than a hardcast and mobile too.

Your dmg won’t be high. Flamestrike hasn’t done much damage since we lost artifact trait from legion. If you do it all properly and mobs stay in the flame patch then it will be average at best.

I was told Fire mages have the best AoE, I think I have it sorted.

Fire mages have the best burst cleave using combustion. Outside of combustion our aoe and cleave is below average but it has to be because of the dmg we can do in combustion.
