Fire mage rotation

I’ve been looking at Icy Veins and there are 2 elements of the rotation guide I want to clarify.

Firstly this (point 6 in their first list): Cast Pyroblast when you have a Pyroclasm proc, Combustion or Rune of Power will not run out mid-cast, or you do not have Rune of Power or Combustion currently active.

The normal Combustion rotation they give is this:

  1. Place your Rune of Power (if talented) and immediately activate Combustion as this cast finishes.
  2. Consume your Hot Streak with a Pyroblast cast.
  3. Immediately cast Fire Blast and Pyroblast again.
  4. Repeat this chain of Pyroblast + Fire Blast until you run out of Fire Blasts.
  5. Cast Pyroblast.
  6. Cast Scorch.
  7. Cast Pyroblast.
  8. Cast Scorch.
  9. Keep repeating until Combustion runs out.

The initial piece I quoted says to hard cast Pyroblast during Combustion anytime you get a Pyroclasm proc, thus superseding the normal Combustion rotation they give. Is what they say here correct?

Secondly, this: 1. Dragon’s Breath if Combustion is active and you have no Fire Blast available.

Why?

I know it was right in legion with bracers to use bracers procs during combustion, if the cast would finish before combustion does, cos it generated absolutely insane ignites. I’d imagine the same holds in BFA with pyroclasm, even with all the nerfs.

Ok thanks.

Pyroclasm is a slight gain on dps if you get it off before combustion finishes but if your still casting when comb ends its a big loss so your better off leaving until after combustion unless you got some good weakauras to help you.

The dragon’s breath, does that refer too if your talented to alexstrasza’s fury? Or maybe if there’s only a second of cumbustion left?

I was looking through the icy viens page and I the think the dragon’s breath has been accidently been left over from legion when its crits triggered a heating up proc. If you go down the combustion section there’s no mention of it.

Ah ok that makes sense. Thanks.

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=40, Combustion, Fire Blast, Pyroblast, Fire Blast, Pyroblast, Phoenix Flames, Pyroblast, Phoenix Flames, Pyroblast, Fire Blast, Pyroblast

This is my nuke macro.

  1. Use potion or trinket
  2. Cast Rune of power
  3. Get 1 heating up proc via a standard phoenix flames at the start.
  4. Use the above macro to go to town.

Btw I don’t use this all the time, just when I have everything off cooldown, its surprisingly easy to get the hang of and know when the macro fails and manual casts are required again.

Also give it some time for the first phoenix flame to proc as its dependant on distance from you to the boss.

Oh and if you want some amazing weak auras for playing any mage spec check this out:

Makes it super easy to stay on top of cooldowns and ability’s.

And yes Pyroclasm + Rune of power is lawl.

Especially if you combine it in open world with max Flame Cannon pvp skill.

Ok thanks for that.
