(First build) Will this run wow raids at 1080p, good settings and >60fps?

Hello !

I have recently started playing WoW and want to upgrade my setup so that I can start raiding on 1080p, good settings and with a minimum of 60fps. Up till now I have 0 / zero skillpoints in building desktop computers and have been reading forums and asking around. This is the setup I want to use:

Cpu: Amd Ryzen 5 2600
Gpu: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5500 XT GAMING OC 8G
Mobo: ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 - 16 GB: 2 x 8 GB - DIMM - 288-PIN - 3200 MHz - CL16 - 1.35 V

SSD: Intel 660p 512 GB
HD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM010 1TB - 3.5"

Casing: Cooler Master N300 - Midtowermodel
PSU: Be quiet! PURE POWER 11 500W

Monitor: AOC G2590FX 24,5 inch, 144hz refreshrate, 1080p.

I will be using Windows 10 Home edition.

WIll this have what it takes to get me raiding at >60 fps in 1080p and good quality or will I need something better ?

Preferably I want to stick to this setup, but I’m open to spending a few euro’s more if it’ll improve the setup alot.

Thank you in advance for your time !

yeah i think it should defs on 1080p, i have a gtx1070 8g and the same specs otherwise, expect a 6700 i7 intel cpu. im running 40-60 fps on 10 setting on 4k atm. so 1080p should be a breeze.

First of all, there is no CPU that can get you 60 FPS all the time in raids.
Not even the Intel 9900KS (which is the fastest gaming CPU on the market right now).

Then 2nd, DO NOT buy an older gen Ryzen.
AMD had a lot of trouble with their low IPC (basically low singlethreaded performance, which is what WoW needs most) until the latest 3000 series.
They improved their IPC from the 2nd to the 3rd gen Ryzen by about 20%, which is ALOT.
They are now almost as fast as the current Intel CPUs, but Intel is still king.
But a Ryzen 3600 e.g. has the best value for your money atm.

I upgraded from an older Intel I5 to a new Ryzen 3900x and it doubled my FPS.
You will drop below 60 FPS quite alot in raids and worldbosses though.
WoW’s ancient game engine is just not optimized for proper multithreading.
Modern CPUs have alot of cores/threads now, but their IPC hast not increased by the same amount.
New game engines do make use of many threads though, so you will see higher FPS there.
Even for questing in BfA, you will not see 144FPS without turning down the CPU intense settings like viewing distance and level of detail.
WoW is VERY CPU limited.

I would also recommend upgrading the GPU to a Nvidia 1660 Super.
The 5500XT may be enough for WoW but not for new games and high FPS.

Also get RAM with low latency if possible and at least 3200Mhz.

It doesn’t look bad at all. I would also consider a newer CPU, though. This looks like a budget build so I guess you don’t want to spend too much. If you are okey with more expensive parts, consider a better GPU as well. Start from 106X, 107X, 108X, or even RTX 20XX. It’s more difficult to exchange parts. You would rather save for a better GPU than rush to buy a “bydget” one. Unfortunately, the GPUs I pointed out are much more expensive than what you selected. Also remember, you still need to add cost of a cooler, a case, and fans. if you have space I would consider mid- or even full-tower case.

My personal experience. Ventilation is one of the aspects of new system builds very much important, yet very much neglected. Therefore, I would suggest to have at least 3 fans: 2 intakes and 1 exhaust or even 2 ins and 2 outs. Make sure you have “stronger” fans or a greater number of fans on intake rather than exhaust. This way, slightly higher pressure inside a case will “push” dust outside the cracks and your components will not collect dust as much. When you search for a case, make sure it has filters in place where your intake fans are mounted. This will also prevent dust from getting inside.

This.

You can buy RTX 2080 and have below 60 fps in raids. Wow isn’t optimized well… First unit to process data is cpu, and until gpu won’t let cpu know that it can handle his job, cpu will struggle and gpu will be lying on bahamas.

Years ago people had Intel Pentium 4 with built-in gpus, so game was developed to cause work on cpu, times changed, but policy lives on.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your replies!
After reading the reactions I want to go for a different CPU and GPU:

  • Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC 3X 8GB
    &
  • Ryzen 3600X with a Dark Rock 4 cooler

And also use a different MoBo:

  • ASUS TUF X570-PLUS GAMING (Wi-Fi).

And this case:

  • CORSAIR Obsidian Series 750D - Fulltowermodel (3 fans).

with PSU:

  • Be quiet! PURE POWER 11 500W CM 80+Gold

The Ram is CL16 latency , 3200 mhz.

I will put Dashia’s advice about the ventilation to use.

So to summarize: this will be my first build, 0 experience and starting from scrath learning about this and I’m building this primarily to play WoW BFA raids on a 1080p (but unless I wrong I can just as well get a 1440p monitor) screen with good settings.

What are the opinions about this setup ?

Thnx and best wishes for 2020!
