I recently created a character and after I learned fishing skill, I was unable to reach even level 2 via fishing. I thought the fishing level should go up after every fish caught. Am I doing something wrong?
Fishing is split into different expansions and it’s a bit complicated.
You learn the fishing for the relevant expansion trainer then you level it up in that expansion. For example Shadowlands fishing is learnt in Oribos and then levelled up in the Shadowlands.
So it means that I can only level up SL fishing? What’s the point of learning fishing skills for previous expansions then? How do I level up them?
You can level up any expansion fishing if you want. Like Punyelf said you need to pick up the fishing for the expansion you want from the expansion area, usually the hub for the expansion. Eg. For the Burning Crusade (Outland) you can learn fishing for Outland from Shattrath, BfA in Boralus for Alliance and Zuldazar for horde and so on. Guards in the hubs should be able to point you to the trainer.

It’s not how it used to be 1-375, now it’s Fishing, Outland fishing, etc. Figure out which one you need and level that one.
You can level all of them, you just need to be in the right locations/expansions.
What one are you trying to level? Where did you learn the fishing? Where was the trainer?
