My new rogue is not getting profession points while fishing. Despite learning the profession, doing the DMF profession quest and two days of capital city dailies, as well as getting credit for fishing 100 items, my fishing skill is at 8/300. I have tried disabling add-ons and deleting the WTF file. Characters other professions - lw/sk + cooking are levelling as normal. Created new toon, got to lvl 5, learned fishing, same problem no fishing skill points appearing. Anyone else?
Have you trained the correct fishing skill for the expansion you are levelling fishing in? For example for Shadowlands you need to pick the basic fishing + Shadowlands Fishing from Oribos, for TBC you need the basic skill + Outland fishing, for old EK and Kalimdor and Cataclysm zones you need Cataclysm fishing and so on.
Each fishing skill is levelled seperately and by default the spellbook UI only shows the latest you have trained so if you have eg. Cataclysm fishing and Shadowlands Fishing it will show Shadowlands fishing status. You can click the Fishing skills button in the spellbook to view details of every learned skill.
I believe currently DMF profession quests give profession skills to Shadowlands skill so you probably need to have it trained before you can get them from DMF.
DMF fishing quest did give me 5pts in classic fishing, the 2pts I got were from the capital city fishing daily and the other 1 is what I started with when I learnt the skill giving a total of 8/300. At lvl 18 (at time of typing) I am selected on the “cata” chromie option enabling me to use lfg for classic dungeons. On numerous other toons created prior to last patch with these options selected, fishing in SW gave classic fishing skill. I have not purchased shadowlands and this is the second issue I have had since the last patch (though the daily quests not showing was solved by blizz with an additional patch).
Sounds to me like you don’t have the right fishing skill, where are you actually trying to fish and do you have the appropriate skill for that expansion?
It’s no longer 1-300 as it used to be, it’s now Classic fishing, TBC fishing, WotLK fishing, etc.
I am trained in each fishing skill available from the trainer in Stormwind. If you check the fishing skill via the professions tab it lists the expansions alongside your skill. The one listed as just “Fishing” i.e. classic is still a score out of 300. I don’t know if this alters if you purchase shadowlands. I did some fishing tourism and it appears I can level my fishing in Elwynn Forest but not inside Stormwind itself as has been possible previously. Did something change with the last patch so fishing in Stormwind no longer results in skill increase?
I just tried it myself and fishing inside Stormwind seems to give skillups for Shadowlands fishing for some reason. Not sure if it is working as intended or not. Fishing outside gives skillups to plain “Fishing” like you said.
