Fix Demonology Warlock class/spells (feedback)

Hello,
Would like to give my feedback as demonology warlock, it feels like throwing fireballs (with demon form) at a target and then they disappear. Please stop trying to make demon lock as a mage caster, we are different and better than mages!!!

Make Demonology completly different class/specialization from the others and make spells rotation like a puppet master, let us control 2 demon pets (permanently), our main rotation spells abilities should be the demon pets abilities while we stay far away. Demon lock should be very strong staying far away controlling the demons (pets) while weak at melee range.

Stop with the spells of demon pets that disappear after 10 seconds - its ridiculous. Let us have at least 2 permanent demon pets so we can control and use them as puppet master from far away.

We should be able to empower the demons pets and use them as offensive and defensive while on battle field and heal them too. That will bring a new perspective to the game like a chess player/puppet master controlling the pets from far away.

Thats is my feedback for the demonology spec, it needs to be revamped completly.

Thanks for reading,
Hekates

Did you play Legion? Empowering demons didn’t work out too well.

Its better than a 2nd level wanna be mage type of class - Warlocks are different and better than mages.

Gameplay should be more around puppet mastering the demons from distance and not spell casting bolts to targets - we have destruction specialization for mage wannabes…

If I recall correctly, it was the most unfun thing ever conceived. Maintaining it was tedious and really didn’t feel engaging.

Being a demonologist warlock the most fun thing I like about it is controlling the pet and let it destroy mobs, but atm its so weak and also the other pet demons disappear 5 secs after summoning.

It should be more around having big and strong demons that devastate the battle field quickly. The demons need to be OP because the purpose of the build would be controlling the demons from far away but the warlock would be very weak in melee range.

Could be very fun in PVP or PVE, we also need to have a bigger list of demons to choose like hunters can choose any animal for pet.

You’re pretty much hitting on the points raised back in Legion. We started collectively calling ourselves “Impologists”. They made some decent steps towards bigger, more fearsome demons being summoned, since then.

We usually go through this dance in the beginning. We scale well, but in the beginning we’re low. Which, itself, is pretty lame since we have to wait to be good. Right now, we’re just waiting for that point and doing what we can with what we’ve got.

I actually didn’t mind have a 2 button generator, it was still fun to play. I know I’m in the minority, though.

Legion beta was so good, demo warlocks were even summonning dreadlords and whatnot.

Instead of shooting out shadow bolts we need a whip that we can crack to make our demons and group members fight harder.

Thing is, fixing demo is very easy.

  • reduce cast time of shadow bolt
  • make imps attach to target and do melee felstrikes, not felfire bolts, additionally implosion should not be a spell but a passive, they implode when their energy runs out
  • make dreadstalkers either cost no shards or lower cd, they just don’t do enough compared to investment, and being forced into a proc talent for them is bad
  • make tyrant instant, lower his cd to 1 min
  • vilefiend removed or made a permanent 2nd minion
  • 2min felguard removed completely, replaced with synergy as baseline and removed as legendary (what do other two specs have to do with demons part from their utility, nothing)

Then you tweek numbers a bit, and thats it, spec fixed. Our problem aren’t numbers, they are there… problem is clunky gameplay of casts, minion AI, and dispersion on CD’s. 45sec, 2min, 1.5min, 30sec, etc.

And why does nether portal still exist? Why don’t they just give up on that and be done with it, remove it… put in something different, like tyrant is now permanent but buffs your demons by 5% or something.

This whole thing of, I’m ramping up for 10-15 sec to bust out sick damage and then some mob or player or boss or w/e just aoe fears all your demons… they are demons, they can’t be feared damn it, or line of sights them… come on.

They changed the imps to spawn at the caster because the forums were full of rage. Apparently having imps spawn around the target is not aesthetically pleasing enough.

Increase the chance of gaining demonic core stacks from imps. Help with movement. Helps with ramp-up mid-fight after Implosion. If imps are attacking wrong target or failing to find a path, blow them up and rebuild with your Demonbolts.

They had 3 expansions to work with this so called Demon army…they failed.

Giving out feedback at this point is literally pointless.

Funny how that completely made demo worse in PvP.

Though I actually preferred to stand around my imps at one point now I just want them to spawn around whoever I hit

First of all thank you all for your replies and inputs.

I disagree with you Beher, you still defend the shadow bolt casting style of gameplay - thats mage/destruction style. You should pick destruction specialization if you like shadow bolt casting type of gameplay.

What I mean with my post is completly change the way demonologist specialisation works.

The “spell” rotation should be around using all demons abilities from far away, one demon would root the target and slow them, another would massive strike them with blows (Fel lord example) and the lock would be commanding from far away and putting curses on targets to weaken them and slow. But ultimately the rotation would be demon abilities.

We need to have 2 or more permanent pets with the ability to total control them and position them. We could even do a demon formation around us (caster) - like box formation to protect us.

The warlock would be very squishy though, that will be the weak point of the spec.

This would be so fun to play around ingame, hide away and send demons to torment players in pvp.

Thanks all for reading.

Tbh the way Blizzard handled the empowering spell was a huge failure, had the spell been on a some sort of CD instead of being forced to spam it all the time would have been miles better.
But after 14 years I have noticed that Blizzard really does only in rare occasions informed and good decisions
The only redeeming quality for Demonic Empowerment or w/e it was called was the talent that gave you an instant shadowbolt from empowering.

yes, I completely agree. Demonology needs to be completely reworked, ever since they took away metamorphosis it has been feeling really weak to play, and even before that it was z tier in PVP. It’s about time they gave it a completely unique playstyle in contrast to BM hunters, unholy DK, etc. It should be focused on having very strong pets out at all times and cooldowns based on empowering/altering their behavior for specific needs. So that demonology can choose to play with a succubus or any pet as the main pet. Right now there is heavy pressure to use felguard and any other pet will mean you will lose damage, utility, or PVP talent slot as a sacrifice which is completely against the idealogy behind demonology which should be BETTER at commanding succubus, imp, etc than other specs not worse at it because it’s missing out on felguard’s utility.

There was the chance of a Thal’ kiel’s Ascendance proc, too. This is why the 2 button filler was the best way to go.

Demonology definitly needs a rework to make us feel like powerful demon masters.

I don’t like the idea of two perma-pets as that would make us feel like a hunter knock-off.

Pet empowerment like this risks feeling like somethine of an Unholy DK knock-off as part of their rotation is empowering their pet.

I’ve suggested before that our summoned demon becomes a part of our rotation via a borrowed power mechanic - giving each demon it’s own ability on a par with a tier 4-6 talent that we access via Command Demon. The pet utility that came with Command Demon before could be paired with / replace one of our other abilites whilst we have that pet out (e.g. Seduce is paired with Banish so when we try to Banish a humanoid the Succubus automatically casts seduce on them). Inturrupt would be moved to the warlocks spell book (Spell Lock would add a silence to it).

Meanwhile our Soul Shard spend would be based on summoning and maintaining control over various demons (the number of soul shards spent determins the strength of the demon - so we could spend 2 shards to have a felguard for 30 seconds - 1 minute or 5 to have a Doomguard for the same amount of time). Demons would come in various groups with each group having a focus (e.g. one set of 1 - 5 demons would be AoE orientanted, where as the Felguard - Doomguard set would be single target or possibly cleave) - these Demons would be tied to the pet bar, same as our main pet.

Demonologies strength would be in its flexability - we can adapt to the situation by using our shards to summon different demons.

You titled it “FIX demonology” not change it completely and scrap what we have now.

If we gonna scrap what is now, we can go as far as name change, no more demonology, we get a nethermancer, and go with my amazing idea of phasing in and out of nether to do insane things

Key spell, 5min CD… you summon Argus that orbits constructing Sentinax that launches fel spears and bombards entire Azeroth with demonic portals summoning entire Legion to do your bidding.
