I have no had that on any of my 4 locks as of yet but please do put in a bug report ingame and i will do one for you aswell .

If its a bad game then dont play it.
Also i havent encountered your problem any time where there wasnt anyone near the gate. If people are hugging the gate then yes its an issue. And for preexisting ones theres a macro from Nyalotha im pretty sure still works.
So could be a variety of reasons why its not working for you. It being truly a bug or one of your addons interfering for instance.
I think it is a problem for specific positions. I have no problem with our warlocks gateways, except one in the last below area in plaguefall from the slimes (at the right side) to the boss area (strait ahead when jumping down). That one just never works.
You have to be on the same elevation as the gateway for it to work. I’m more annoyed by being unable to actually click it in boss fights like huntsman, where you will just select something else instead.
So basically a “path not found” issue.
People use Gateways on huntsman?
Probably. Most notable in Spires when skipping the pack while you’re on the stairs. I’d most likely get a no path available if I’d try leaping from that point as well.
On Mythic so slower classes can properly move to the markers
You can set your mouse wheel to spam it as you hover the pointer over it and roll.
Last expansion when we were doing Carapace we all had to use this as so many of us had trouble interacting with the gateway when it was crucial to move at the right time.
Step 1: Make a focus on mousehover macro:

Leap has alwys been a gamble of “will it work or not?”. Same as the vanish bug for god knows how many years.
Unless youre badly positioned i dont think its an issue. Ofc you can do it tho.
Would have been used even if the gate worked properly outside of “people are hugging it” because “people are hugging”. I remember the macro being part of the Carapace encounter on mythic.

I should never need it, but I’ve had bad moments where my leap was on CD and the portal could’ve saved me, if it worked

No one should ever need it. But as i said, one can use it i suppose. Doesnt hurt.
In the end you should roughly know the fight and be able to preposition yourself anyway, so yeah absolutely
