I was thinking about my DH quite a lot and decided that I will main it, at least for 9.2. I didn’t have the chance to obtain Flamereaper back in the day in Legion which is still a painful spot for me. Now, Blizzard already brought back the Mage Tower, so I don’t see a reason why it is still not obtainable? They could just easily bring back all the other artifact weapon appearances too for all the classes. What do you guys think?
I literally stopped playing BFA just before these were released. I have all the others unlocked bar 1-2 colour variants, was so gutted because I totally forgot about them
There’s literally no reason that something shouldn’t be obtainable anymore. In fact, by making it unobtainable you are creating an artificial scarcity that benefits none.
Relevance and exclusivity are two reasons I can think of.
Relevance: If when you accomplish something hard in the game it is immediately invalidated as an achievement during the next season/expansion as gear and powercreep then would trivialize your achievement.
Exclusivity: Hypes up something that’s desirable by making it exclusive to those who were able to obtain it when it was available. Exclusivity can be in number of units or timebound, or both. Potentially motivates people to stay subbed in order to achieve this good.
Me getting something doesn’t invalidate your achievement. If an achievement is the goal, they can remove the ability to obtain the achievement like with Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge, while still retaining the mythic mount drops.
I didn’t say achievement was the goal. You are making a strawman argument here. Look, let’s agree on a basic definition here. The product can be anything from an achievement to a mount, to a transmog. Anything.
If Blizzard made a product (ingame) that is exclusive to those who were able to complete it in time, that exclusiveness is diluted if everyone can get it suddenly. Then the product ceases to be an exclusive product to become a common commodity on the level of toilet paper.
Example: “Of the Nightfall” title was actually hard to do in Wrath because it required you to finish 10/25 man raids without a single person dying a single time among other hard to accomplish achievements. Today you can get that achievement solo or in a small group. This makes that title toilet paper.
Plague Protodrake: This is a ‘feat of strength’ mount. It can no longer be obtained in the game and is exclusive and shows you were around to do the hard and difficult part to get it. This mount is exclusive (but not particularly relevant anymore as nobody knows about it or cares about a lower res sprite).
So our difference is, you want things to be obtainable that you didn’t do or could do at the time and you dont care it becomes toilet paper in the process.
I am of the belief that bygone is bygone and if you want people to be motivated to do things you need to assure them that they can flex that status by not making it into toilet paper.
Either you don’t understand the business model and the psychology if it, or you don’t like it, or you don’t care. Frankly either of the three option is of no consequence because you are driven by your own motivation to have that thing you want and don’t give a damn about its relevance and exclusivity. It’s your opinion to have and that’s fine.
I do not share your opinion - or at the very least I consider your opinion ultimately fruitless and unproductive.
Yes. There’s no value in it and just reduces possibilities for mogs. There’s literally no gameplay being ruined by anyone, just a bunch of people that gatekeep mogs.
Gameplay is being ruined for those that obtained the skin. The core issue here is that WoW is poor on good transmogs… and adding new ones are very far between. This is a really annoying aspect about Blizzards priorities.
you mean like how they don’t do for any of the paying customers of recent expansions? I don’t get anything exclusive or FOMO out of the hard content of our times compared to what players from older expansions got, doesn’t sound fair at all does it?
Twisting corridors layer 8 = Did it the first day it launched. It’s a joke now, the reward is still there.
Flawless all 12 layers = A joke now. Reward still there.
Flawless all 16 layers = Will become a joke next expans.
Gauntlet Layer 4 = Will become a joke next expansion.
Plaguefall Heroic Solo Mount = Will become a joke soon if it’s not already. did it the first day it was discovered. reward still there.
Black serpent of Nzoth = Clearing 5 mask visions. One shottable now probably. Still mount is there. At least the title was removed.
They had so many oportunities to add nice stuff for the current players. But no. We will never get unique items/mogs/etc. But the thing people in the PAST got, they get to keep theirs and those things are unobtainable forever. Seems like pointless to start playing now if you didnt played 6-7 years ago.
I mean… I am not talking about Scarab Lord or rewards with that level of significance. But the Mage Tower is back already. They did put it back to the game. So if it is accessible with the same level of difficulty, I don’t see a reason why the old rewards are still not obtainable, like artifact appearences. I bet a lot of players would come back hyped as hell if flamereaper would still be a reward.
The moment every player gets flamereaper is the moment it becomes not interesting to anyone in the game. You will not care if u see it on another player. Player will go for other rare stuff, and you will go too, flamereaper will become the other artifact mog noone uses. You think you like it cause its just nice and that its not case of rarity, but it is. Player knew that these weps will be gone, and hard grinded it on alts and stuff, and now u guys want to disrespect the hard work and get it.
