Is it just me, or is this ability absolutely ridiculous?
30 second CD, 18 second up time, benefits from haste, doesnt just proc kill shot but also makes it do 25% more damage…
Survival Hunter especially is just insane with this. They dont even need to be in melee range to do their damage. Just run 40 yards away and still out damage everyone else.
surv hunter is one of the best specs in 2s for a reason. flayed shot is just one of them. and survival has never been a melee spec, most of the dmg can be done from range. this is not just due to flayed shot
the sustain dmg of survival with flayed shot is just insane. add pouch legendary to that and you get unhealable dmg really quickly
It CAN be insane. It can also be complete dog-poo. Its RNG on RNG on RNG on RNG. There are games when you proc 3 x 14-15k crits in a row with a flayed, and then next flayed shot you get out 1-2 shots averageing 3-4k.
One of the reason people have started to like going necro in both surv and MM is because of actually being able to control your damage output alot more. I dont think there are many hunters who actually like the design of venthyr and flayed shot atm, but since survival can drag out 2s-fights long enough to make the RNG work in favour of them, its still the best.
haven’t had a single game where kill shot and pouch aren’t 1st - 3rd place in details, even in short games. feels like crippling yourself by choosing not to play venthyr against anything else than hunters
Survival is really good, but I think bm being super easy dealing a lot of dmg and other class such as warrior/ret/ww/feral being super good (and better in most of comp) makes survival in the bench despite being strong.(same can be said about outlaw).
Survival is one of those specs which every other shoud feel like. Literally has the toolkit and PvP talents to choose to beat every single class / comb you face on it. It doesn’t rly have any hard counters , you can outplay anything if you’re good on it. Most other classes just have quite a lot of counters due to the lack of tools you can pick against them.

Survival has an identity crisis, and I think it’s completely senseless that they’re able to output damage and high pressure in range, even without Flayed Shot.
I know most people like it like that, and how hybrid it can be - but to me, it just pisses me off, because the spec is in theory a melee spec, but in practice it’s a hybrid that’s almost equally good in range as it is in melee - and it’s even more aggravating when I play MM, trying to kite a SV, and even if I manage to keep my distance, the SV can still output and outdamage me in range with much less efort than me, especially because they don’t have to stop to cast anything, while I have to stop to cast Aimed Shot when it’s not procced from the talent.
Also, I don’t find it logical that SVs have acess to abilities from BM with their pets, such as Kill Command and the stun. SV should have a baseline stun, and it should be in melee range. Beast Master has that name for a reason. SVs pet should be just like MM pet, with basic functionality.
Blizz should just make up their mind. If SV doesn’t work as melee, then revert it to be ranged again instead of the current mess which is everything at the same time with an endless toolkit
