Given that, starting with 10.2.5, the dracthyr can fly dynamically, I noticed something weird, in my opinion.
What is the reason behind the cast time for Soar?!
Druids have to transform into a beast, in order to fly and they do it instantly.
Dracthyr need only to start flapping the wings and that takes time before starting to fly because… ???
Where is the logic in that?!
Dracthyr flight should be enabled with the second jump instead of gliding where flight is enabled.
More, ending the flight form when touching the ground is also bad (I’m not allowed to write the reqired attribute).
I might be in a minority here, but I quite like having a cast time on Soar. It makes the action deliberate and gives you time to cancel the action. Perhaps the cast time could be shorter to make it feel a little more organic?
As long as it can remain a little bit more convenient than summoning a mount, the skills works. If it ends up being reworked to function just like a mount, it would just be a pointless gimmick.
Edit: We don’t know how Druid’s Flight Form will function once its gets the update for Dynamic Flight.
I think this can be chucked up to mechanics. That’s the druid mechanic, turning into stuff instantly. The dragon ducks might have wings but it’s still a mount, not a form. Same as the worgen beast run mount.
Blizzard likes to have classes have something unique about them. Druids being able to instantly turn into flight form is a staple of Druid ever since TBC. It’s an identity of the class. It’s one of the “cool” things about Druid. Wow has been taking away to much uniqueness in classes in recent years and I think it’s good that classes have some unique things about them.
Soar is neither a form nor a mount. It doesn’t offer increased ground speed like a mount would, and it launches straight into the air without spending vigour (again, unlike a mount).
I happen to like it! The only downside is I preferred the halt from the old version, rather than the dragonriding variant with massive vortices and legs clipping into the ground on landing.
My drakthyr just jumped off Dalaran and could only hover and glide slowly into the ocean.
They couldnt even take off from the water but had to get to shore first!
Whats wrong with it being cast time? If you want it to be faster then. Their dragonflying racial ability is extremely useful compared to some other racials. Racials always have had such restrictions, goblins can’t summon their bank 24/7 for example because otherwise there would be no reason to have a normal bank anymore.
Same with drakthyr. If you want to take off without cast then fly on your dragon.
Soar being without a cast time would also be especially OP in pvp.
Not for long afaik. Blizzard have said Druid flight form will change to Dragonriding style at some point. I’m guessing it will still keep it’s instant cast though.
To many flying systems at this point. If you aks me they should to create universal new flying. Fast like DF or almost as fast but with possibility of hovering and all that.
