Flying mounts

have the flying mounts been enabled for all areas yet or do you still need to unlock achievements to fly? I hit max level on most expansions and unsubbed so no idea what the game is like.
You can unlock flying anywhere except the new expansion content. The way you obtain flying in WoD and Legion is by getting a specific achivement called "X: Pathfinder". That does exist for BfA zones as well, but flying is unlocked with part 2 of that achievement which isn't out yet, and works the same way it did in Legion.

There are also some specific "no-flight" zones which are mostly extra content areas, such as the MoP islands. You also can't fly in the Ghostlands or Eversong woods, but I suppose everyone knows that.
Yes, I know you needed pathfinder for WoD and Legion; I was wondering if it's still needed and is it a requirement for the new stuff, but you've more or less said it is.

Thanks for responding. Saves me resubbing.

Yes, to fly in WoD and / or Legion, you still need the appropriate Pathfinder achievement.

and is it a requirement for the new stuff

Flying in Legion / WoD isn't required for any subsequent expansions.

Having, for example, flying in Legion, but not flying in WoD is perfectly possible and will only affect your gameplay whilst in those zones (farming old content or levelling new alts).
To put some information in order for anyone else who might be reading this for (somewhat more basic) understanding of flying:

You can learn basic flying at level 60 (150% speed). It will allow you to fly in Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Outlands, Northrend and Pandaria (prior to patch 7.3.5 flying in Northrend required Cold Weather Flying. Flying in Azeroth - Flight Master's Licence. Flying in Pandaria - Wisdom of the Four Winds).

At level 70 you can learn Artisian Riding (280% speed) and Master Riding (300% speed). Those unlocks only increase speed of travel without unlocking it in any new zones.

Flying in Draenor requires unlocking Pathfinder meta achievement which requires:

    - Hitting Revered with three Tanaan Jungle factions (Tanaan Diplomat)
    - Completing all main storylines in Draenor (Loremaster of Draenor) - 5 separate achievements in 5 zones: Talador, Nagrand, Gorgrond, Spires of Arak and Frostfire Ridge (H) or Shadowmoon Valley (A).
    - Collecting 100 Treasures (Master Treasure Hunter)
    - Exploring all zones on Draenor (Draenor Explorer)
    - Completing 12 Apexis Dailies (Securing Draenor) - those missions are randomly given in your garrison, but can also be bought for 200 resources from Sergeants Grimjaw (H) and Crawley (A).

This achievement is account-wide.

Flying in Legion requires two separate meta achievements:

Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part One:
    - Complete 100 different World Quests in Legion. (Variety is the Spice of Life) Those WQ can be done on different characters.
    - Complete 5 major storylines on the Broken Shore. (Loremaster of Legion). One storyline per zone with Suramar questline being subjectively most time consuming.
    - Earn Revered with 6 Broken Isle factions (Broken Isles Diplomat). Court of Farondis, Dreamweavers, Hightmountain Tribe, The Nightfallen, Wardens and Valnajar.
    - Complete your class campaign (A Glorious Campaign)
    - Explore all zones in the Broken Isles (Broken Isles Explorer)

Completing Part One will grant you 20% speed increase while on a mount on the Broken Isles. This achievement is account-wide.

Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two:

    - Explore Broken Shore zone.
    - Become Revered with Armies of the Legionfall.
    - Complete Pathfinder Part One (duh!)

This achievement is account-wide.

In Battle for Azeroth we're not allowed to fly yet, however we can already complete the Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part One:

    - Complete 100 different World Quests in Kul Tiras and Zandalar (Wide World of Quests)
    - Reach Revered with 6 BfA (Azerothian Diplomat) - four faction specific factions + Champions of Azeroth and Tortollan Seekers
    - Complete main storylines, one in each zone of your faction's continent (Zandalar Forever [H] or Kul Tourist [A])
    - Complete The War Campaign (Ready for War)
    - Explore all zones in the Battle for Azeroth (Battle of Azeroth Explorer)

BfA Pathfinder also grants 20% mount speed on Kul Tiras and Zandalar. This achievement is account-wide.

Zones in which you cannot fly:
- Draenei starting zone (Azuremyst Isles)
- Blood Elf starting zone (Silvermoon City, Eversong Woods, Ghostlands)
- Isle of Quel'Danas
- Tol Barad
- Molten Front
- Isle of Thunder
- Isle of Giants
- Timeless Isle
- Argus

Thanks Ionis! That's a very elaborate explanation that I'm sure anyone with a similar question will find very handy :).
Just super fun, when you haven't played for two expantions and get back to see that you need rep to unluck the new races in BFA. And that rep is in legion, which is a damn grind even without the pathfinder. GG
Long story short - u wanna resub if they remove pathfinder. Blizz didnt so dont resub.
This is bonkers.... just not going to be doing that, what a waste of life going back through a load of junk quests that don't relate to current lore,
