This is every expansion since TBC. Flying is unlocked later once ppl have had a chance to explore.
You get Dragonriding which it much faster than either FP or mounts.

Since WoD.

TBC you could buy it at max level, although reasonable expensive a lot of players would have needed to save up.
Wrath you could buy it at 77 and buy it for you 70 alts (added a bit later I think).
Cata, you could just fly all the time as the zones were surrounded by other flying zones.
MOP, you could buy flying at 85.
WOD, no flying, then removed entirely, then re-introduced with achievement after a kerfuffle.

I do believe dragonflight will remain as the sole way to fly in DF for a long time

So you’ve had to wait in every expansion, thank’s for confirming my point.

Why would you want to use fly mount? I dont want back to old fly mount when new expansion is out. We stay Dragonflight forever! xD

I do miss buying flying at max level.

No the system of ā€˜it becomes available later’ started in Warlords. All previous expansions you could just buy flying upon dinging whatever the level cap was.

WoD introduced the system of gating flying where we are grounded for a considerable time regardless of hitting the max. It was the start of pathfinder achievements.

I liked that I only had to do pathfinder once and it unlocked it for all my alts, but hated that it took a year each time until flying became available.
Also hate collecting treasures ever since I had to do it for a pathfinder achievement. Took all the fun out of finding them for me.

Why would you even WANT to fly normal speed in DF, I feel naked when I am not in Dragon Isle now, 310% is too slow now, I have had too much taste of Dragonriding, I cannot go back…I don’t wanna go back…DONT MAKE ME GO BACKKKK

Dragonriding is too fast. It not comfortable for me. I prefer slow flying but using dragonriding slow flying almost impossible. And I would like to rotate camera to view landscapes but not dragon navigating

That’s because they never intended on adding flying in Warlords until players pushed back on it. The result of this was Pathfinder which is a system I was fine with, I wasn’t fine with Pathfinder not being part of the launch content of expansions.

That said, dragon riding is a complete evolution of flying and I feel like, going forward, they need to work these mechanics into all mounts rather than just bringing back what we had.

No thanks.
Both systems can co-exist in the game. I can see why Dragonriding needs some time to bed-in and for players to get used to it but once we’re past that then we can re-introduce regular flying for those of us who struggle with the new system.
One system is faster and more engaging and one system is slower and more convenient to navigate to specific landing spots. Each system has pros and cons depending on situational requirements.

I don’t get why those who like the new system want to remove the old system from those of us who don’t. I hate M+ but I’m not advocating for its removal, it has a place in the game.

Debatable. The mount they sold during that expansion was shown flying in the zones, that came out just before the no flying was announced.

To me that’s clear the intention was to have flying in Warlords and the debate to remove it came later.

They did indeed have to u-turn because of the sheer volume of player cancelling their subs due to the removal of flying. They then came up with the compromise we now have.

I think Dragon Riding is the experiment to see how it goes, how abusable it is, how well it is received etc before they consider adding it to the rest of the game. I know many would like to see it added and as long as I can still have traditional flying I’m good with that. I do not get on with the new flying, apart from not enjoying the mechanics, especially when I’m trying to find something. I’m very glad my main has no gathering profession. But my main issue is that it makes me feel nauseous in the game and I’m having to afk frequently to recover.

Friends fly me about when they can but it’s not practical for me to require a permanent chauffeur.

I’ve not yet experiences dragonflying yet but from what I’ve gathered from what people have said in other threads if you can’t hover that is a big no-no for me.
I like to be able to hover in the area and look around for mobs, rates, treasures etc if it’s non stop flying then it’s no better then using a fancy form of flight path.

No need for flyng Dragon is faster anyways.

I hate new flying system,
It makes me dizzy, I got mild form of epilepsy and cant play some of the games at all, i was more than happy with wow for over 15 years, cant play anymore.
It takes me very long time to do anything in the game, my daughter helps me flying from spot to spot to complete quests. this is absurd…
Restore old flying system please.

Classic flying is death, if ppl now fly with 900% speeed no one want to old 300% boring speed

Just to add my two cents, I personally think it’s over-engineered, it’s a great idea to introduce faster flying. It only becomes ā€œfunā€ when you’ve collected all of the glyphs, so essentially dragon riding out of the box is just a dull experience. Your dragon essentially has a stamina bar (same concept from Zelda Breath of the Wild) which just makes the experience unpleasant overall. You have to think about where you want to land, and if you can travel a certain distance. Annoyingly you can’t hover, which I find to be dumb, and also the customisation options are very lackluster. There is a dungeon in the game where you sort of rely on dragonriding to get around, which I pray is the first and last time they incorporate dragonriding in any sort of dungeon or raid content.

While I like dragonflying, I would have liked to have the option of ā€œnormalā€ flying later down the line in DF.

Would have liked normal flying for gathering later on. The increased flight speed with dragonflying is nice, but perhaps not for gathering (also vigor Recharge rate)
