I haven’t enjoyed dungeons for a long time, people are so inpatient with others learning, wanting to skip mobs that then create problems if you have someone die and not Rez because stopping takes time or being kicked because not being perfect.
Now, i can try new specs, diffrent talents , alts and see everything in a dungeon without anyone complaining, insulting or just leaving.
I think it needs to be expanded on, like gearing your followers, collecting new ones or training them, maybe having them for time walking or hc but not M+ or raids.
I just want to do basic stuff and enjoy the game without an elitest, salty other player ruining everything or my casual, slow completionist self ruining their play.
Agree, the idea was a good one. Helps both newbies, and anyone rerolling to a dps, or a dps-only spec (like hunter). Not getting groups is my #1 reason to not play dps at all, I don’t wanna stand in a queue all day to get declined.
But gearing the followers… that sounds like what we did in Legion with the command table. Like I get the idea, that they get stronger with us, but it all depends on how quick that happens and how much RNG is involved.
Let’s first expand this to leveling dungeons in general (rather than DF only). See how the players like it, and then they could add them to heroics (even including TW) and M0/ M+2.
I’d not go much higher because it might destroy communities if everyone suddenly only wanted to play with bots. Then it would become an online singleplayer.
I totally, completely and utterly disagree. We don’t need more things in the game making it feel like a single player game. There’s far far too many people treating it like that you have to wonder why they’re playing an MMO at all.
It’s that which has lowered the standard of social interaction already - and before some smartarse chimes in that people were idiots before quality of life improvements for group building, yes there were, but are you going to deny things have deteriorated since?
If they have to exist, and I can see they have a place, then for them to exist as ways to test out builds, explore dungeons and maybe get to know a new class before rolling it out with other more judgemental people fair enough. For them to replace existing dungeons, and give rewards that they give then no. They should give cosmetic rewards at best and even then only ones that anyone can get.
I completely disagree, who gets to judge how someone chooses to play for a game they sub too?
I know many people that would jump at a chance to play this offline, single or multiplayer without the online stuff, but that’s not even slightly going to happen, wow still rakes in so much money.
The social aspect was destroyed with LFG back in wrath, personal reputation isn’t a thing, if your rude and abusive in a group your not see again so your not socially punished and no one cares.
Pugging M+ is a nightmare for some to get into, with people who feel their playtime is worth more then yours. I understand not everyone but enough that it sours it for people. I don’t do it as I can’t stand the idea I’d be flamed for mistakes, or worse never get into one for my class or spec.
They won’t replace grouping with others for the vast majority , and it’s not exactly you walking through the dungeon, without doing anything as you still need to play.
If people worry that bots will replace them in groups, you have to wonder why they believe a non talking, simulated person is more desirable than a real human player.
Have you pugged heroics or TW dungeons recently? For all the (lack of) communication, the other players might as well be bots already.
People don’t run dungeons to be social, we passed that station ages ago (Even before LfD was added, TBH), the only times people interacted socially in dungeon groups was when waiting for another player being added to the group (In the “I’ll go to IF to find another player”-era), to fill a slot that was vacant because… oh right, people have been selfish and hardly considering others in the group as actual people since Vanilla.
Social activity has always been limited to friends and guilds, nothing is lost by expanding follower dungeons (To heroic/TW, no further) that’s worth fussing about.
I tried one with my main. It was pretty funny and a smooth run.
While leveling through DF with this alt, I tried a follower dungeon to complete a quest.
The group wiped. I left and didn’t try one again.
I have a feeling that the NPCs scale with your gear and that’s not fun. It makes the dungeons as leveling dungeons way harder than they would be with players. Not cool.
I could be wrong about my theory and was just unlucky with some RNG or something, but honestly the boss fight wasn’t even close. It was a brutal wipe and it felt unbalanced.
Yeah. I got nothing against follower dungeons. I would not run them. Because I tried on dps and it was awful experience for me. I would rather run with bunch of randoms and do trial by fire. But I get that it is not everyones taste.
And sure. I am up for them being expanded by customising the followers/giving greater variety of them and adding more dungeons from previous expansions to them.
But why do you need them on higher difficulties? You are running it on what is basically a story mode so you do not need to group with people to experience the story. You want challenge? Run dungeons with people.
There is absolutely no reason to have follower dungeons be higher difficulty than normal.
I don’t see the point on having them on higher difficulty, they’re great learning tools for people who want to try out without bothering others but if you can do this all the way up to +20 or +25 how are you going to design in fail states if 80% of the party is AI
It’d be weird if people could just be carried in those, maybe not hit timers, but still hit completion because they’re not going to program the AI to wipe on purpose every now and then
This is actually a fair point, I did not think of that. But I think it should be fixed another way. If it is HC dung, it should be a normal one as well. DoTI is only one I can think of this expansion. After the patch was over, it should have been Normal, HC and mythic. Not just HC and mythic.
But I do not agree with B) or that TW should be added to follower dungeons.
Did all the people above skip the announcement of The War Within?
Follower dungeons is just a prelude and early concept of delves. On delves it is flexible party size, where you have one npc you can customize (1st season it is Bran).
So yeah, we know that we will get something between follower dungeons and torghast/scenarios with delves, that WILL scale into a late game progression path.
I use it to test out new addons, new UI stuff, weak auras and all that. I was trying to use it to get better at interupts but it appears the followers are quicker than most people…were talking milliseconds to interupt :-). Its also good for threat plates colour changes for specific mobs which you can set up in your own time, the ones who cast the nasty stuff that need the interupts in Mythic. Also nice to use alongside Mythic Dungeon Tools as the mob packs are pretty similar. Not awesome for the /so bored of Mythic <30 but for others is nice.
I tried a healer as well and it was very realistic, the hunter was always LOS and the mage just tried to pull all sorts of stuff.
I can see the appeal for follower dungeons but for me personally i would rather play with people. Although i do find it hard learning a new class/role when everyone is rapido rapido… personally i think they should make the levelling dungeons a bit more challenging so its not so rushed. Playing a class that relies on dots in leveling dungeons sucks when you finish bottom dps because mobs die within seconds
Just saw your post just after I posted above… I would love them to be expanded to Heroic but on an LFR type set up where HC is out for X weeks then the follower dungeons come in.
You make a game for the players you have, not the players you wish you had.
Correlation is not causation.
Are there fewer social interactions because players are doing solo content?
OR are there fewer social interactions because toxicity has driven the friendlier social types into their own guilds and communities or even out of group content altogehter?
