Now you might be thinking what does this title mean? Well the general idea of this topic is demon hunters who chose the same path are Altruis the sufferer. Choosing to reject the ways of the Illidari due to a fear that they have become too similar to the enemy they swore to fight. And now, no longer apart of the Illidari and now openly shunning and rejecting the practices of the Illidariand partake in the war because you feel it is the only way to ensure the peace and future for you world.
Now what do i expect from you, person who clicked this post. Iâd like to hear your opinion on demon hunters who made the choice to go down the path Altruis. How your character would react to a demon hunter who has abandoned the ways of the Illidari and made the choice to enter the war against the Horde/Alliance.
I like it! It sorta adds a bit of conflict within the DH ranks, and provides a nice out for those of us who are not actually overly keen on Illidan himself.
My own DH was an Altruis supporter, and itâs had some fun things come from it. Like, attending a DH meeting ages ago, and being sneered at by nearly⌠everyone. 8)
Like most things, it really comes down to how you do it, and how you respond to other people with it. If youâre intentionally RPing something that is controversial within the actual story, then you canât then become upset that peopleâs characters respond to that negatively. Also, if you are doing that, make sure thereâs more to the character than just that, otherwise itâs just one-note.
It can feel a bit âsnowflakeâ in some ways. âI have a character who openly is against the main tenets of their race/classâ but that really is mostly a problem if you go with the idea that âall ____ act like/think like thisâ. With DHs, it is a lot more rigid than other classes, I admit, but variation still happens and I like that that was given some attention by Blizz as well, even if ultimately we all rode the Illidan train anyway, DH or no.
Eh, to sum up my rambling point; itâs fine, I have no problem with it, I actually play to it myself. Nothing in RP is totally free from dissenters or critics. Have fun.
Neither of my DHs are fans of Illidan. The blood elf actively follows Altruis and left the illidari and the night elf was never illidari to begin with, having a master that only trained her.
I do expect negativity if it comes up on my blood elf.
Reminder that Altruis is a) still alive and b) still apparently part of the Legion-era Illidari as both he and Kayn show up for the DH class mount âcongratulationsâ cutscene, regardless of which you picked at the start.
I think that itâs just there so no one feels left out. Or two of Illidanâs strongest demon hunters coming to congratulate you as the strongest one. They made their feelings about each other within the vault very clear. Either way Blizzard acts in mysterious ways.
Most DHs i saw personally are pro Illidan/Illidari, either now part of faction, or still illidari
My own DH is not totally Altruis, but different, he wasnât like serving LORD ILLIDAN, not even liking him that much, yet he shared a common goal with him, and common way, so he joined them to destroy burning legion⌠And all he did was for his people and Kalimdor
Overall i can see it working, more for n elf DHs than b elves
Good luck
Iritari was originaly a non ilidari, a demon hunter in regret and just trying to suvive on his own. Due to a DH decline and guilds with them on center or elven guilds with non ilidari DH allowed, I recenly made him Ilidari at least offialy, not like he supports their theoryâŚ
I think rogue ilidari is intrestin concept for sure, but the question is how one pull it of.
My Dunter isnât pro-Altruis as much as heâs anti-Illidan (happy to sacrifice others for the greater good but not himself) and anti-Kayn for being a bootlicker berk. Altruis gets his vote for not falling into either of those two camps, strictly by process of elimination.
but it didnât change anythingâŚ
the biggest game changer in DHâs legion was if you took the place of that other one in in the starting zone (if you didnât sacrifice yourself there would be a ghost blood elf walking around in your order hall)
Yeah it didnât change much, but some elements are still there; for example with Altruis you donât get to enslave Akama, rather he willingly joins you. Thatâs an important change in the lore.
Also ofc, RPwise the ideology is kinda different, although I canât help but see Altruis as a lone wolf type, which I think fits the DH concept better than an army of vengeful, salty elves. Atleast it would have before Legion.
It isnât just about how it changing the gameplay though. Because both of them have different philosophies. Kayn is all about getting the job done no matter what it costs, as kayn says before you face Akama âRemember, we are here to convince Akama to join us by any means necessaryâ. As well as instead of killing him they choose to let the souleater illidari pull out his soul and revive the shade. While Altruis is more about finding alternative ways to get the job done without sacrificing everything. You can see this when Altruis tells you âRemember, we are here to convince Akama to join us, not to kill himâ. as well not forcing Akama to do anything.
Another thing I can tag onto this is that demon hunters that follow Altruis would probably stray away from metamorphosis due to the fact that you are giving to the demon within for more strength. While this isnât directly confirmed I do think that this is what demon hunters that follow him would do.
