With Blizzard’s seemingly newfound interest in reintroducing discontinued and unattainable items to the game, what other items do you think they should reintroduce, if any?
And how do you think they should reintroduce these items to the game?
Below is a few examples of what such items I’m referring to. There are, of course, many more items than listed here.
Blizzcon, Collector’s Edition, Promotion, and TCG items, such as (but not limited to):
Can’t say I disagree, but this seems to be the direction Blizzard is taking the game. Evident by the reintroduction of high value TCG items given away as Twitch drops, and increasing the drop rate of 1/2000 world boss mounts (and BMAH loot) to ~1/20.
I agree with most things except the corrupted Ashbringer, because it is available as a Paladin Artifact Skill, Atiesh because it is canonically Khadgars weapon and partly with the Black Quirai Drone as from my opinion it should be instead made available by SoM Classic Servers where after the Season is done you should get the chance to transfer to Retail with it.
I think with the TCG mounts, it’s more about Blizzard taking back control and stopping people from selling them for silly amounts of money, or atleast devaluing them. Blizzard don’t like other people making money out of their digital collections. That is the reason why you can’t sell your account.
As for increasing drop rates on mounts currently in the game. I’m 100% for that. Farming old mounts is a horrible experience. I’m sick to death of killing Mekkatorque for the past 2 years and there are even rarer mounts than that one!
As for the minority of items that have been removed from the game due to time constraints advertise, I firmly stand against them being reintroduced. It’s a bigger slap in the face for the players who invested a lot of time and effort working towards and earning a unique reward, than it is for the players who came along later who still have an entire games worth of things to collect.
Also it’s a psychological problem built on your own insecurities.
The correct term for most of these items are Time Locked Rewards. And Time Locked Rewards is what they should remain.
However, a lot of these items have been, still are or will be available on Classic servers.
I have gone back for a few items I have missed. And hopefully the servers will start to rotate around at somepoint so we can relive the experiences again.
Entitlement isn’t what I would call this. It’s highlighting pieces of the game that were lost to time.
However, it is certainly mind-boggling to see how long the list of removed items and rewards is, as everything that is listed is undeniably an important part of the game’s history, often with strong ties to lore, and as such constitutes content.
I believe that exclusivity is only acceptable when it is present in the form of skill-based rewards. Removal of quests, lore items, cosmetics that can be attained by purchasing them from a vendor, “retirement” of in-game shop or Recruit-A-Friend items and similar things is not something that can be considered respectful treatment of the customer.
Player retention isn’t achieved through attracting new players only for a Wowhead page to inform them that the item they want in a pay-to-play, subscription-based game is “No longer available to players”.
I completed the requirements for this in Warlords, but didn’t purchase it right away and left the game for a few years. It was a disappointment to return and find it gone from the vendor.
When I started playing several weeks before Warlords of Draenor went live, I wasn’t aware that these cool-looking cloaks would be gone. To this day, I wish I could experience at least the questline, particularly since it involved Wrathion who is now a major part of the story in Dragonflight.
This is the most resentment I feel towards any unobtainable item currently in the game. It was promised that it would move to the BMAH, and I feel silly for not buying it when I had the chance, as I trusted that I could buy it later on. After months spent checking the BMAH every day to the second that it resets, I am beyond bitter to not see it spawn.
I like having relics of the past (CE items) It differentiates brand new players to loyal players who’ve played throughout the years in different expansions. I think having some level of rarity is healthy for the game.
What isn’t healthy for the game imo is people wanting anything and everything and getting it.
Some people enjoy having rare things/prestige things, just like in real life. No different to vintage clothing/cars/items. It’s basic human nature to want to feel unique and be unique and be differentiated from one another.
I think the TCG thing is more so Blizzard being lazy to bump up their viewers in the WoW section to try and get people to join the game/play the game. No need for any development, just rip out old content that got discontinued and use the items as a carrot on a stick.
Either way I’m not really bothered by TCG stuff. But the Collectors Edition thing I feel like shouldn’t be touched. Hint in the word Collectors Edition.
What is your opinion on the anniversary package deal? It’s not exactly a relic of the past if it can be currently purchased, and with this there isn’t any distinction that can be made between “loyal” and new players.
The fact that these are digital items and can be reprinted by Blizzard at will also means that they don’t possess any inherent worth, particularly if they are used to entice players into buying them before they go away again for a few years.
I would also argue that loyalty isn’t determined by someone’s purchasing power. Players who have played the game for a decade and over without owning any Collector’s Edition items are just as loyal as those that do.
Yes, you’re certainly correct about that. But why do we feel the need to be so exceptional in a digital world? The ownership of tangible, real-life items isn’t comparable to digital items that we bid farewell to when the game is discontinued and its servers shut down. We don’t truly own anything that we attain in this game.
There are also many things that allow you to feel unique, by the way. Skill-based and challenge rewards already set players apart from one another. I agree that these should be exclusive to those who put in the effort.
That is quite possibly true. But TCG items have been randomly gifted to players in the past, such as Bananas, and there was no Twitch involvement back then, so we can’t be too sure of that.
I agree 100%, it’ll all end, but that can be said for IRL as well. We’re not going to live forever, so in the greater scheme of things nothing really matters I guess. But people still do care while this game is still around
I don’t know. I’m not one to step on people’s toes or judge what other people do or feel about things. I can’t comprehended why us humans do the majority of the things we do. Like I’m sat on a forum right now typing this out, does it really mean anything? Not really, but we still do it haha.
I guess people just try to get their enjoyment from different things, whether it being the best player in WoW, best bodybuilder, richest person, etc etc.
People used their real life time in-game for things that they wanted to earn, and a lot of those things may because of bragging rights, or to show off, people choose to do different things. Not for me to judge, but I understand why some people would be annoyed about them sticking TCG stuff as Twitch drops.
Had it been the pets from Vanilla - Wolk Collections edition, I would have probably been upset. Those Pets really are relics from another era. The game really was something special back then, and the people who have those items really have a right to feel special for them.
But from all the items in that package, only the WOD CE and the TBC Delux (which has only just come off the store) we’re not available already.
Why can’t they?
There are players of the game who have logged in everyday since Vanilla was released. Have truly committed their time to enjoying the game. Why can’t they hold onto items which they have earnt in the past, as the game has changed and progressed over time?
Like the Amani War Bear for example. It was originally removed by Blizzard because completing the Challenge was an achievement and they wanted to give the players who completed it to have something special. But since, it’s been replaced by a recoloured version, so if you want the mount, it’s there to get.
By demanding that these items are put back into the game and available for everyone, you’re taking away from the people who worked hard for it. Whereas that mount would likely just disappear into your mount collection never to be seen again. Your Greed would just be making the game worst for people who have enjoyed the game for a long time.
