I know this may be a small issue, but for anyone running Linux and playing WoW currently, the game may not update and give an error. If this happens, especially more than once, try changing the runner option to Proton-GE. This should fix things right up and you can update the game.
Hope this helps!

Oh, I was running into the same issue. I managed to search and find the thread about it on the WoW US forums, and same setup issue as here. I find it odd since I was originally using Proton-GE to begin with, but I guess maybe changing Wine/Proton versions helps some?
Right now I’m trying to reinstall it with a new Bottles version. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try install another GE version and see what happens.
Yup, was on GE, deleted the old Bottle and made a new one with GE also and it worked for me. Also running through flatpac, so I was for a while worried it might have been a permission issue there.
Also obligatory: “Still not going to use Windows, but at least MS gets to get more money from me this way still” comment.
Still had the issue with the launcher after playing again on a different startup. Read elsewhere that the launcher has issues detecting the update, but the game is actually fine.
At first I kept running into Login Error BLZ51914400, so I thought it was Bottles that was having an issue with the GE Proton. So ended up playing the WoW.exe directly from Steam using Proton, and ended up still having the same Login Error BLZ51914400.
Turns out, the bot detection stuff is super aggressive mixing up V’s and W’s to the point even I had no idea what was being typed. At some point I entered my password and passed the captcha and ended up getting to the next point in the login.
But then I ran into the game wouldn’t run when I tried to launch into my character selection screen. The fix for that was deleting the Cache folder and renaming the WTF folder.
Logging in ended up making me re-enter the captcha, despite saying to set remind me, but past that it ended up working for me.
Ended up playing again for the first time in a while and did the weekly quest for Rookery dungeon. It’s nice I can set to follower dungeon then get to grips again with AI. It’s a nice touch.
Anyway, that’s how I ended up fixing it for myself.
