Forced into races because of meta

Allright.
So we have already came this far with races beeing able to play most of the classes.
Isn’t it time to let go of the “metaslavery” and let people play the actually race they want to without beeing forced to pick a certain one because of racial abilities?

Make racial abilites optional to pick like “Pick 2 abilites” so you can play the race you want to instead.

Right now im playing the shadow priest, if i want to play in a higher-end guild im expected to play goblin for the haste % and goblinjump.

But id love to play the tauren because of the feel and fantasy around it.

Am i wrong?

I don’t think a single on of my characters are a “Meta” race, and I get along fine.

Moral of the story, nobody is forcing you to pick a certain race except you.

Yes

And this is the reason

I don’t think you understand.

If i get 1 % haste from a certain race, people are expecting me to pick that race.
That’s kinda sad!

99% of the people will not.

WFR might.

That’s just not true. Never once have I talked to someone and said “you should go X race cause you get 1% haste”. The only place the race you play matters is in top level m+, world first raiding or MDI.

No. And i will explain you why. If you’re a meta slave, a minmaxer, you already have the posibility in chosing the strongest race for your class. So if numbers matter more than looks for you, you can go for it. And if you’re not a meta slave/minmaxer, you can safely chose to race/class combo you love, without no true handicap.

Difference between races in pvp/pve are still insiginificant. But if you like the 1 % advantage a race can give you, just pick that race and stop complaining.

Just because they did a mistake with adding more races/classes combos that doesn’t even make sense, it doesn’t mean we should follow with more mistakes.

p.s. also, lets take shadowmeld for example. That’s a night elf race specific spell since wc3. How can you give that to lets say orcs? That’s so stupid.

Maybe the orc has learned the Fusion Technique from DBZ and did it with a nelf.

You’re not being forced to pick any race. You are just a min/maxing win at any cost nerd and this unfortunately is the downside for you.

Why should the rest of us miss out on cool feeling and flavourful races because of your obsessive need to min/max and always win/be the best?

So tired of these dull minmaxers.

I played pvp competitive since Vanila. And i always picked the night elf. Simple because i care more about race fantasy then about 1 % advantage. Right now in classic era i’m a night elf rogue, while like 90 % of the rest of the races are stronger rogues than night elf. And I couldn’t care less.

Imagine picking an elf, when you could play as a human - the greatest, imaginative fantasy race there is!

yeah… I’m wierd like that. Imagine that in wotlk I was a weak night elf, when humans could equip in pvp 2 pve trinkets while i wasted my slot with the insignia. But I was happy with my meld at least.

Hey, it’s something.

Then you don’t want to play with them either way because what will cause a guild to get stuck in progress has nothing to do with races. Everything to do with how the players in the guild perform.

Wdym I picked nightborne as my main warlock because of supa mega meta +1% to magical damage? Not because I like nightborne?
Hm

Duuh.

I totally picked humans for their racials…

Racial meta is an illusion. I play since I joined only the races I like. And I wasn’t handicapped once to this day by any of those “1% damage resistance” racials or the active ones.

In fact, I wouldn’t call WoW’s racials “racials” in the first place. More like “boni”… Elder Scrolls Online has actual racials that matter. WoW really doesn’t.

It IS time. And the choice is yours. You can start disregarding the meta and treat anyone who is adhering to this ‘metaslavery’ as ‘abnormal’.

Be the change.
I’m doing MY part.

You’re not wrong for wanting to get rid of ‘metaslavery’. But you ARE wrong in the way you want to go about it; the game shouldn’t be succumbing to it; which is what you are suggesting. Because that will only keep the spread of this kind of behaviour going.

You have a solid point here.

And i would like to give it some input.
I feel there’s a big difference for example the “shadowmeld” ability fantasywise as a racial.
But all the other ones that give you a benefit in stats (haste etc) could be optional.

and yes people, i agree that im not “forced” to pick it.
But in a pve-enviroment im almost stupid to not pick the % extra haste, even if it’s a small boost it’s still 1 % haste.

Actually +2% to secondaries seems helpful, do reputation bonus considers renown?
