Forsaken leadership and identity

So with Sylvanas gone, how is that going to affect race identity? Isnt it kinda weird to change identity to one that completely contradicts the old one? For those who think easily about a change of identity, I will try to put it into perspective.

Forsaken their complete culture and identity has always included Sylvanas. At least lore-wise, not every forsaken player values narrative obviously, some might play for aesthetic. Forsaken npc quotes like “Victory for Sylvanas” and “Dark Lady watch over you”. Everything has always been about her in Forsaken culture.

Now to put a change of identity into perspective, lets say Velen his leadership would get replaced by some Eredar Necromancer who praises higher death entities. Imagine Draenei saying “The Jailor has not forgotten us”, in stead of “The Naaru have not forgotten us”? This would contradict similarly if Calia would pick up Forsaken leadership. I dunno, perhaps that would be just as weird for Draenei players.

I just can’t imagine the forsaken suddenly saying “Light lady watch over you”, in stead of “Dark lady watch over you”. Changing Forsaken leadership to me equals whitewashing the race. Its a far stretch and a stab in the back for players who value Forsaken narrative.
Blizzard seems to think its a fun narrative to feel lost, helpless and abandoned. Cus thats the current narrative and what Forsaken players are stuck with until Shadowlands. Since nothing is known about future Forsaken leadership yet, potentially Lilian Voss or Calia I would guess. Hope that will never happen.

Please just return Sylvanas to the Forsaken when shes done plotting, playing games and has achieved whatever goal shes currently after asap. Thnx for reading if u even got this far lmao.

Yes ! Sylvanas is the core , and time and time again she has proven to love the Forsaken after WOTLK , even at the end of the campaign she tells the loyalists that.

Well it will be weird at first, but these changes happen unfortunately. The Night song for Night elves have the lyric “Zin Azshari” which means Glory to Azshara. Obviously no night elf would say that now, but it’s a part of the song and I still hear the song from time to time. It was even used in Darkshore

Oh wow I did not know that !

Yeah, she really is the core and I dont think that will change. Even in Ogrimmar some Forsaken act as if they feel lost and betrayed. But then when the coast is clear say for the Dark Lady always or something along those lines. Need to check it, but it kinda seems as if theyre putting up an act. Forsaken would remain loyal to Sylvanas until death, those who arent loyal most probably are dead already.

Alex Afrasiabi has been writing Sylvanas since 2006, I cant think of the Forsaken being separated from Sylvanas as intended. From Sylvanas her narrative it makes sense to get her hands on more power as an entity of death. Making the Forsaken part of that journey would probably too complicated technically, while she is carrying out her plot. Making this temporary separation between the Forsaken and Sylvanas inevitable. Thats what I think, I just hope its true.

Honestly same.

In before the storm , Sylvanas is very emotional, and all she wants to do is hold hands with Nathanos, and stay in Undercity.

All of bfa she united both factions, she had Baine she did not kill him, heck she didnt even kill Genm in Stormheim, she was also walking away from Saurfang until he taunted her.

With our knowledge on anima her calling everyone “nothing” the way I see it , and many people alike makes it seem like shes saying in the grand scheme of things we are all just fuel , why would she call the loyalists in the end of the campaign I mean Velonara clearly states that many Dark Rangers remained with the Horde , Blizzard could have made her give us the final quest as a “she never cared for us bla bla”.

Sylvanas’s words are very telling the Shadowlands cinematic was her inner thoughts also BFA “we have forgotten what makes us strong” unity makes us stronger.

This world is a prison, and I will set us ALL free.

Thats interesting, I also didnt know that. I thought when Night Elves were introduced, Azshara her betrayal had happened a long time ago already. I still get what youre saying though. In a way I do see some parallels between how Azshara her people worshiped her and how the Forsaken also kinda worship Sylvanas. Not that I dont mind change, subtle and spread out change is okay.

Honestly, Azshara would have been a better Queen than Tyrande, have she not betray her people for power and her obsession with demon men. She would become powerful and Teldrassil would not have burned today. But of course she became evil and we had to stop her.

For the Frosaken I still see hope. You have a Menethil who clearly loved her people and is trying to help the new Forsaken (such as the undead Humans and Undead night elves). Clearly blizzard made her a forsaken for a reason and I believe this is the reason. She will have the strength and leadership of her father, and hopefully nothing from her brother lol.

Lillian Voss could be a leader as well, but she is rather mysterious.

My character’s identity doesn’t stand or fall with Sylvanas’ presence.
But what I won’t stand for is a complete retcon of the Forsaken simply because of the way the writers handled Sylvanas in BfA.
Call it brainwashing, call it Stockholme Syndrome, but Sylvanas really was part of the Forsaken and taking her away will change things severely for them.
But I don’t believe it should mean that all Forsaken change to suddenly wanting to be good and light and redeemed.
Just let me keep my backstory of hating the living because of the prejudiced behaviour towards the Forsaken in the past; not giving them a chance to show they are not mindless scourge.
Sure, times change, but now it’s up to the living to take the time to redeem themselves and show us they are no longer prejudiced.
Yes, I just turned the tables here.
Sylvanas did what she could, she sent out ambassadors to the alliance to explain the situation and those never returned. No wonder Forsaken felt abandoned and wrathful.
Now I’m not saying ALL Forsaken STILL feel that way, but my character surely still does and I (as a player) would hate to see the backstory changed simply because Blizzard decided that Sylvanas should be an all-out villain for one expac.

I don’t care what happens to Sylvanas. I do care what happens to Forsaken as a whole.

You just reminded me of Thomas Zelling. My fav tidesage and only hope of ever being able to play both Shaman and alongside Sylvanas. The amount of grief just makes it funny almost.

Its for a reason were loyalists. What Saurfang did was betrayal, I think she got angry cus he betrayed her and she allowed herself to trust him. There is a high price to pay for betrayal. Those ppl wouldnt understand.

Yeah youre right, besides last time we saw her everything still went according to plan. So she probably made herself the enemy to unite Horde and Alliance. She always thought this faction war was childish.

I think dark rangers just stayed cus this is something Sylvanas needs to do on her own, otherwise theyd have gone with the wind. It does show how Forsaken in Ogri are playing a game, perhaps thats Blizzard hinting Forsaken players. Or maybe thats my wishful thinking lmao. Naah I believe in Sylvanas, loyalist until the end.

So refreshing to see some Forsaken players, for a while I feared they all ran off to Classic. But I fully get what ur saying, I can align with nearly all aspects, just that ultimately my loyalty lies with Sylvanas.

Especially the anger towards the living is where this new leadership becomes a bit confusing, if indeed it would be Calia. Cus when being driven by anger and hate for so long, fuel you dont just replace by joy and happiness overnight.

I hope the separation is just temporary. Sylvanas is the core of forsaken identity. That’s a fact you can’t change. I hope Afrasiabi doesen’t screw up.
