Hello.
I’ve been having weird fps issues and i can’t figure out why. Usually i’m able to keep it at 144fps but it just jumps all the way down to 60 in some places. Boralus is a big one… It usually only happens in BFA content, dungeons… raids and such. But older content like Uldum or vale of eternal blossom is fine… Even with N’zoth stuff around.
It’s not unplayable at 60+ But it still worries me when i see the number jump up and down like that.
spec: Intel® Core™ i9-9900k CPU 3.60ghz
32gb ram
Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Super
144hz 1920x1080 monitor
My ingame settings are:
Shadow quality: good
liquid: good
sunshaft: high
particle density: high
SSAO: high
depth effects: high
outline mode: high
res scale 100%
And enviroment sliders is at 6
Vsync off (tried on too)
I’m not a tech person so i’m not sure what else to add here. Thanks
Does it drop exactly to 60 or around 60?
Is your CPU running at max clockspeeds in that moment? Temps?
Have you tried without addons?
Hi! It jumps around but the lowest its been is 60
when i ctrl alt delet and look at the …usage %
it says cpu is around 24-25% with the game running and chrome browser too (obviously to type here
)
GPU is 5%
Temps is: GPU is around 59. And cpu around 45
I’m not sure what to tell you about cpu max clockspeed
I have tried with and without addons without any changes
edit: should add that, that is while standing in boralus with people around
40-60 FPS with multiple actors is what you will get even when running that CPU and GPU on unobtanium.
Thanks for the reply.
I’m aware that more people means more stuff to load in.
I did a timewalking dungeon, and just fighting 2-3 enemies it goes from 144 -> 120 during the fight. Old dungeon and its only 5 people. Is that really normal?
honestly its my first time having a pc that’s not hot garbage (even i could tell my last one was bad
) So maybe i’m just worrying too much about it.
Another example is just standing in place and turning the camera around can make the fps counter drop
Well, just linked some benchmarks in second thread:
Hardware numbers tested a lot of CPUs in WoW:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7vKkAlMTMs
Where as I was comparing R5 3500X vs i5-9400F:
https://rk.edu.pl/en/ryzen-5-3500x-versus-i5-9400f-world-warcraft/
And few subsequent benchmarks for RAM scaling. > 100 FPS is usually only in old zones, in closed spaces and that’s pretty much it. Modern zones with some actors or in spots with more assets will be bit slower or more.

So if i understand this correctly… My pc is working just fine and having a few drops here and there is normal? I did not expect to have 144fps in a raid.
But in 5 man dungeons i honestly didn’t think it should drop
I’m not 100% sure if i understand the charts in the video
I do appreciate your replies! But i really am bad with tech stuff.
Yes, even in dungeon you have few actors (players, mobs) and the game is online so it will have lower FPS than light online games or offline games.
Well that’s a relief… Was worried i had to get repairs done
My pc being fine and having drops like this is normal. That’s good news.
Thanks for the help! And sorry taking up your time.
It’s sad, but yes. It is an engine limitation (CPU).
But your FPS in Boralus are too low even if that were on setting 10 and especially with much lower settings like 6.
I get around 90 on 10 i think, outside the tavern top right on the map (forgot the name, horde player here).
So unless there are like 40-50 people on screen when you drop below 60, something is wrong.
