FPS Capped in Character Screen

Hi guys,

Since the update to the latest version 9.0.1 it seems to me that the FPS is capped to 60 in the character creation/overview page. I don’t understand why this change is necessairy.

More and more people are getting 144hz screens - there should be no reason that we shouldn’t be able to enjoy that fully in our character screen.

Why did this make it in?

Turn V Sync off … Its default ON after prepatch

Same here, capped at 60 only in character select screen, but uncapped when I load load in.

Vertical Sync is not the issue. Also my frames are uncapped - ingame I get my glorious 144fps+ I immediately put it off the moment I logged in as all my settings were reset.

Yeah, I noticed it being implemented in one of the builds on the beta servers, but thought it wouldn’t make it into the final game.

I was wrong and now it seems we are stuck with 60 frames cap on the login screen. They also did this on Overwatch, way back.

Just seems wrong since they put alot of time in reworking the whole thing, but having it capped on 60 frames makes no sense.

Noticed this aswell, sucks to be honest.

I don’t understand why you feel you need 493843829348432fps to select a character.

You don’t have to understand. We had unlimited frames forever, now it’s capped.
There are people that don’t notice it, there are people that do.

I can’t find anything back on it in the patch notes, so would be nice to know if this was intentional or not.

It is really jarring to go to 60fps/60hz if you were at least 75fps/75hz before,
hope blizzard hotfixes this

I don’t like it either but they did it with Overwatch and the reason was that they didn’t want your hardware being taxed while you’re idling on the character select / home screen.

Well how about a Option to turn the cap on or off

I think it is a wise decision to keep it capped at 60 FPS at default but allowing people to increase it above that by own choice shouldn’t really be a problem since it already did exist before.

So to please both parties, 60 by default and option to increase the FPS?

I dont understand what exactly is the problem?

I’m happy with this change.

I’ve always preferred to play with vsync disabled, which feels great in-game, but on the character screen my FPS went up to ridiculously high numbers (999 FPS according to FPS overlay) and my GPU usage spikes up and fans starts going at 100% with GPU temp rising to 70+ ℃.

60 FPS cap on character screen solves this issue for me at least.

This was never an issue since you can limit the FPS ingame (or externally).
Just limit it to your refreshrate, done.
But yes i don’t see a problem here too, i run a 144hz LG and i could care less if the FPS was capped to 60 in the character creation screen

I understand some people absolutely don’t care about the framerate in the character screen. However, some people do.

Like a few people already mentioned, why not give us an option to disable it? It just feels like such a step back whenever I’m scrolling through my characters.

Makes me want to log in as soon as possible to get my full framerate

there’s literally an option in the game that allows you to cap frames when the game is in the background.

Given that this thread is 6 months old, I suspect the OP already found their answer.
