Hey,
i’ve been having some fps issues these last 2 weeks or so, and I genuinely cannot figure out why. I already looked around in the forums and on reddit as well. My game runs most of the time pretty alright, yet it tends to get fps drops or small freezes. I noticed that it mainly happens in oribos, korthia and in certain dungeons like theater of pain or necrotic wake. But it also happens completely randomly anywhere else, like in older zones. PC specs below.
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3,2Ghz
RAM: 16 GB
Things I’ve already done:
- Scan and Repair Option
- Lowering Graphics (Recommended Graphics Quality is 7, no improvement even on 1)
- Cleaning my PC, removing unused stuff, and cleaning the dust out.
- Turning off all Add-ons (also no improvement)
- Everything is updated, Bios, GPU, Win10.
Any help is appreciated. Best Regards.
Check for Nvidia driver conflict - run Latencymon, then run the game and when it stutters alt-tab to latencymon to see if it reports high latency - this could then be due to Nvidia driver conflict with another driver (usually onboard audio) or some Windows app going crazy (like wallpaper rotator of all things).
If it’s an app it has to be killed if it’s nvidia then drivers need a clean reinstal being removed with DDU first.
Other thing is checking your storage performance. If there is some wear or to much space is used on an SSD it performance may drop drastically which then for WoW can give stutter as the game uses big compressed archives of assets.
Thanks a lot for your response, I appreciate it. So, I tried everything you told me; Did the Latencymon check, and everything seemed alright. I did stutter once, but it showed that everything is fine, so that left me a bit confused (not sure if I checked it wrong, never worked with it before). I checked both my SSD and HDD, and both are completely fine and well. Got enough space on both of them.
All of that leaves me asking if you got any other possible ways to check what exactly is messing things up? Once again, thank you.
You can run Userbenchmark before running the game and then alt-tab and run it again while the game has problems - post both results, we will see percentiles for each component of your PC. It’s good for finding odd thermal or storage problems.
Just did that, seems like I’ll need to upgrade soon. I guess that explains it, I really appreciate your help. Best regards. And here, just in case you’re interested in the results.
UserBenchmarks: Game 41%, Desk 71%, Work 38%
Post the whole thing, those aren’t the percentiles I was talking about.
Sure, you mean this?
UserBenchmarks: Game 31%, Desk 67%, Work 29%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 58.8%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB - 43%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 71%
HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB - 83.5%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C16 2x8GB - 66.5%
MBD: MSI B350M PRO-VDH (MS-7A38)
Is this before playing the game or when problems show up?
Sorry that was during the game.
UserBenchmarks: Game 41%, Desk 71%, Work 38%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 62.8%
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060-6GB - 57.1%
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB - 72.2%
HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB - 99.7%
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C16 2x8GB - 72.4%
MBD: MSI B350M PRO-VDH (MS-7A38)
This was before
This is bit low. Either thermals or some app is using a lot of CPU.
Can you post the link via preformatted text
? They include some clock/load info there.
Sorry but, how would I do that?
Also, I got this message from there aswell:
Very high background CPU (37%). High background CPU reduces benchmark accuracy
Yes that’s the thing. Some app is using a lot of CPU which limits resources for the game - GPU get hits as well as the OS is less responsive due to that app.
Check what apps are running and which is using lots of CPU.
When you write a post you have options on top and between qute and list there is “preformatted text” - it allows posting links if used on a link.

First one is with the game, and second one is without the game running.
As to the Apps: I checked it out and no app really messes around with the CPU, though Opera GX and Discord do take a bit of RAM.
Performing way below expectations (7th percentile)
This is for your CPU.
Performing way below expectations (4th percentile)
This is for the SSD.
Something is wrong with the system and you may need to do a clean Windows install or some manual troubleshooting - likely a system app (or things like AntiVirus app) is using a lot of the CPU causing problems. The SSD has problems as well - it’s either due to CPU activity or it has to much data on it (SSDs will loose a lot of performance when getting just close to full (even like 70-80%) or it’s just old.

I see, I thought so aswell and I’ll be sure to make a clean Windows Install. And about the SSD; I only really have Win10 installed on it, and got WoW on my HDD. Could that SSD problem make issues for the game regardless?
In such config not directly, only if Windows would have severe problems with it.
I see, thank you a lot. You actually helped me out immensily!
