Hi, I read the posts in this forum topic, as I was looking for similar issues to what I’m experiencing… I see that some people say they are having problems with fps drops, like I do. But has anyone found a permanent fix? The game mostly runs just fine, holding at around 60 fps. But, randomly, the GPU usage spikes up to 100% and my whole PC gets super laggy, and the game becomes unplayable. If I switch from windowed to fullscreen, or the other way around, it fixes it for a while. A game restart also fixes it, until it does it again. A /reload command doesn’t seem to help. Sometimes the game freezes and crashes. I have not found a permanent fix. I tried disabling all my addons, but it didn’t make a difference. If it matters, my PC is with a Ryzen 5 1600x chip, Radeon RX 580 grapics card, 16GB of RAM, the game is installed on a Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD. All drivers are up to date. I have never had such issues before 8.1.5.
hey, i’m having the same thing…just came back to the game , running a gtx1080,albeit on a laptop but a highend gaming laptop non the less…it doest matter what I do settings wise either in game , with the driver or gpu settings .it also doesn’t seem to matter where I am in game. I can be all on my lonesome staring at a wall and I still get the fps drops…frustrating !! just resubbed to give wow another blast , but my god this is getting on my preverbials !!!
Yeah, I also resubbed recently and have this frame drops too! As the poster before me I also have a decent rig running WoW and still have these drops, even while im completely alone staring at a wall. And thats something I did not have the last time I played regularly
System: AMD Ryzen 2700X, 32 GB DDR 4 RAM 3200, Geforce RTX 2070, M2 SSD Systemdrive and SSD Drive for my games.
I know WoW isnt optimized that well, but these framedrops shouldnt be there, if nothing is happening on the screen. I already tried different gpu drivers and playing around with system and ingame settings, deactivating addons, deactivating unnecessary background-programs and the list goes on. But nothing helped. Also tried other games, but couldnt reproduce this behaviour there, so it is most likely a problem World of Warcraft is causing.
I also found out, that these drops dont happen while flying with a flight master from one point to another. Maybe this helps to find out what is causing this. To me it seems like its some kinda query working in the background, which gets disabled while you are using the flight master or something like that. Also I can confirm, that it occurs around every 10 seconds, sometimes, more sometimes less.
€: It seems like Elwynn Forest is also free of these frame drops! Was there yesterday after I tried a full interface reset and thought maybe it was just coincidence, but I am there right now again and dont have these drops. Hopefully this informations will be helpful for the devs.
Hey all,
I’ve been going through all your posts, and can see a few different suggestions and steps undertaken so far. I just want to call out the World of Warcraft Performance Issues support article, as that lists the steps you can go through to try and improve your games performance (which could potentially reduce FPS drops as well).
One of those steps is to reset your UI (addons). It’s one of the first steps we ask you to go through when you encounter odd issues, as addons can cause strange issues at times. Make sure to fully rename/delete the folders as instructed, as disabling the addons in-game does not remove them from the game (which means they can still cause trouble). If you use an addon manager, make sure to disable that before testing World of Warcraft afterwards, to prevent it from restoring your addons/settings.
Another step is to close background applications. After the restart, make sure to double check that there are no other programs active in the background for you.
Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!
I already did everything you suggested before you even posted it and as far as I understand the others here, they also tried most of it, if not everything. So your post isn’t helping me and most likely not helping the others. What would’ve helped us, if we got the certainty, that these problems where forwarded to some devs and not some tips which most of us already heard and read about 100 times over the past years
Anyone still having issues? As of last night when I drop into Boralus Harbour via FP my fps tanks it. Never happened before, but now it won’t stop happening. It’s only in the harbour and in the market. Everywhere else in the game is hunkydory.
Issues? Regularly - or rather irregularly. Now that I got an overgeared PC, they don’t interfere with gameplay at all, but unexplained FPS drops show up when I least expect them.
In earlier 8.1.5 I saw some truly strange lag in invasion zones. Now I just reliably see FPS drops there, not huge but noticeable. Sometimes in Boralus as well, now you say it, and at the start of a flight in the few seconds after I get on the taxi. But apart from that, there seems to be no pattern - and the only things I’ve seen for the past couple of months have been temporary FPS drops, which are not a real problem.
Yeah mine is a really annoying thing, it will come and stay until I leave Boralus and have left for at least a short while or go anywhere via loading screen.
lol, this is obviously something that came along with the lastet patch.
cant play at all, since the latest update. been trying to do the usuall stuff that the blue prit sugested earlier in this thread. But thats thier reflex respond for every FPS problem.
i can just say i could whipe my as with this monthly payment instead.
Fix it please.
I want to bump this thread right here. With 8.2 around the corner, the issues described here have still not been resolved. After having sent multiple tickets and trying an absolute plethora of possible solutions, this issue still persists. Good FPS, but random drops at times, the worst being in instances or big cities.
I have come to the conclusion that the problem is with the game, not my PC.
Everything worked fine before 8.1.5. Are we going to get an optimization with 8.2 that fixes this issue? Or an option that makes us go around it?
You basically ruined the performance for a lot of people without actually improving anything graphic wise.
I have been having a similar problem for weeks with 8.2 and windows 10 1903.
The game plays fine ( 2700x + 1080ti, 32GB of 3200mhz ram ). At some point, the audio starts to shutter and the game blocks for a second or 1.5 seconds. From that moment on, it happnes requently ( every 10 seconds ) until i reboot the PC.
So i had a problem and i still have one, but at least now i know how to handle it.
-
i had memory paging off ( i always did it and never experience a problem with high amount of rams ), setting memory paging to auto helped making the problem recoverable.
-
the problem still happen when i hit 16 gigs of ram occupied on the machine, of which wow takes only 3.2 of them. Then if i close browser windows or other open things, and i drop below 16, the shutter disappear. Wow does not take more than 3.2 - 3.5 GB of ram for me. My machine shutter even if there are other 16 gigabytes of free unused ram.
I have no idea if this is a window 1903 problem, nvidia driver issue, wow client issue, amd platform issue. I never had it before, it started 4 weeks ago, and i do only world of warcraft on the pc.
Maybe your system is not using full ram possible and it’s locked at 16? and then it’s struggling because it uses pagefile?
Well windows does see 32gigs of ram, and the system does support it.
Using the pagefile on a nvme disk is completely fine and quick, i also do not think wow get paged at all. Something gets written there, but that is not enough to justify a 1 second complete freeze of the machine with audio locked on repeat. Something else is going on.
Do you have this ram on 2 or 4 separate chips? maybe cpu struggles when hoping from one chip to another in order to write there and then back again.
bump, bring back fullscreen or fix those fps issues somehow, I beg you @Blizzard
I’d just like to note that for two of my friends, this is a major factor in them moving to Classic.
They have an interest in Classic anyway, of course, as most people do, but BfA’s FPS stability is just too unreliable to be fun for them.
I’ve been experiencing short freezes (~1sec every 10 seconds) in game, regardless of the areas I’m in or the number of people around me.
I found that emptying the Cache folder of my WoW install fixes the issue for a while. The issue reappears every 2-3 weeks though.
I’d like a more “permanent” solution, but it’s been working out so far.
Well, the game evolves and your computer has to as well. Buy a new one.
I still have these issues, Only they came up very recently. I upgraded my PC to a RTX 2070 and all other games run fine except wow, I tried the direct X 11 legacy and stuff but nothing seems to work. Its only for the most part when going into a bg, instanced group or so.
Edit: Sorry for the necro, I just havent found a fix to all this.
