That doesn’t look like a GPU issue. Also using DX11 legacy is bad for performance. Turing should run on DX12 as it’s optimal for this generation of Nvidia cards.
You can have a storage, RAM problem (loading instances), maybe latency due to driver conflict.
- Download and run latencymon then run the game and make it drop FPS. Alt tab to latencymon. If the latency is red then it’s a driver conflict (either unclean Nvidia install or some audio, nvidia-audio conflict and all have to be updated, clean-installed)
- If that is not the case run userbenchmark and check percentiles of your hardware. Then run the game and make the FPS drop - alt tab and run userbenchmark then. If something looses a lot percentiles (some drops are expected) then likely that component has a problem.
Have all the other people resolved their issues? Since this post has already been necroed a month ago I’d also like to participate and voice my thoughts:
I’m also having this issue starting march 2020 when I built my new rig.
Using R5 3600 + a preexisting GTX 980. Since most of the people who posted their specs have Ryzen based systems I’m starting to think it could have something to do with them. My old system had an i5 4690K and I never encountered any issues apart from low framerates. Now I have freezes for 2 seconds or so. Or my framerate plummets to 5 and below.
RAM and Mobo are all new too and sticks are in the right slots. Also ruled out pagefiles since that was mentioned before.
Rn I am only leveling twinks and am more or less just waiting for shadowlands so it isn’t that dramatic, but I hope this issue gets fixed til then.
Did you tried debugging the problem? Like running latencymon, userbenchmark and alike? Ryzen CPUs work fine (aside of memory crashes on newer AGESA versions) and the GTX 980 should as well. What could happen is a driver conflict (which latencymon should show).
So I upgraded my entire PC and It was my HDD, It sounded like a water boiling machine and it was beginning to be just about 8 years old. I switched it out along with a bunch of other parts and the game is running great. Thanks for the advice
Edit: Might’ve been the ram too, It got old and I had 6gb of it only.
I have just changed the setting to DirectX 11 Legacy and everything is back to normal so far. Thanks for the tip.
