Hello everyone, since Sunday I have these problems and I want to see if it is only for me or not (but other posts seem familiar)
I wanted to play yesterday and today but I cannot do anything to enjoy. If I go in Valdrakken then I will have 5 fps, freeze or even crash from time to time.
If I join a BG or dungeon then the same. Maybe the enter area is ok but in BG once the combat starts then gg, lag or FPS drops from 60 to <10
Now I wanted to fly fast but lag appeared.
This issue was not present last Sunday when I played and then I went off for a week. Do you guys also experience problems like this? The latency says 50 but I have horrible lag or FPS drops to below 10.
I’ve tried to reintall and elete everything blizzard related, GPU drivers are updated and other games work good.
I joined classic but there are few assets around the starting area and I am confused because in retail I also have ok fps (60) when I start but when I spell anything I have spikes. Is it because of the last update with halloween ?
So, the idea is that I have only 8 of RAM and not 16 like how it is recommended but before this Halloween patch the game was very fine, I could join raids, BGs and dungeons.
Yes, Latency is not the same as FPS but my problem is that I do not even know the difference btw these two haha, I have not experiece for a long time these problems
I can play other games very well (Idk if I am allowed to put examples like War Thunder))
I do not know if it is my hardware as I can play other online and with GPU demand games.
I log in, I have 60 fps but if I go close to Valdrakken or enter in a dungeon, BG etc or sometime even if I fight a mob, my fps drops and the game runs with “pauses”, it freeze for 1-2 seconds each spell.
sorry, I do not know how to explain, maybe I can record and provide the recording?
Also, I installed WoW Classic and I have no problems, everything is smooth while, as I said, in retail even when I am doing 1vs1 I get this fps stuttering
So it literally freezes? Nothing is moving? 0 FPS?
If the game keeps on moving but you have a 2 second delay between actions, it’s your latency (internet connection, server issue, provider issue…).
By default CTRL-R shows you the FPS ingame and if you hover over the “?” symbol in the standard UI, you can see your latency (not updated in realtime tough).
Maybe that helps.
8GB is pretty low these days but should not cause freezes if your settings are adjusted.
Porbably settings 5 with your hardware in 1080P resolution would be ok, at least for questing.
The problem is your CPU is pretty weak and you will have low FPS with many players around.
Important info since you are playing with a Notebook;
-make sure the temperatures of the CPU and GPU are fine
-you can download a tool like HWInfo or GPU-Z and CoreTemp to check and also log the temps and much more
-if your Notebook is overheating it will cause FPS issues and even crashes/rebooting
Also, do you have the game on an SSD?
Disable everything that you don’t need running in the background / autostart.
Yes, it freeze, nothing moves for 2 to minutes (in Valdrakken it is the worst). And once it comes back and I move, then I see photos…
Indeed, 8 GB are low but as I said, I have played this game on my laptop for 3 months and I had no problems. I understand to have problems in major cities but know I have in a dungeon and sometime even in Open World.
I’ve run some CPU and GPU tests and all fine, the temperatures are below 70
I have an SSD but I have pnly the OS on it. I plan to buy next month a 1TB SSD + 16 RAM to upgrade the laptop since ssd and RAM is very cheap right now.
And yes, I disable steam and other apps when I play but no success.
I will try with 1080P res but I think something since last update changed everything for me.
Thanks for help
If it not works, then I will wait for the next update and enjoy the classic era gameplay
Ok good, check also if the CPU is boosting to max clockspeeds.
That’s like… really bad… SSD is a must for retail WoW.
What res is your display?
I expected it to be 1080P judging from the GPU.
What are your graphics settings btw?
Maybe post some screenshots.
Use the “preformatted text” option on the link if you can’t post direct links.
Have you checked your GPU and CPU utilisation while you play/ when the fps drops happen?
Open task manager and go to the “performance” tab. Does anything spike? You might even see cases where your CPU or GPU almost do nothing as well, meaning that something is bottlenecking the system (they are waiting for something)
How does that look for you? If your RAM usage is in the 80% level, it might also start using the HDD/SSD to swap, which may cause a massive performance hit, particularly with a HDD.
I hope that helps!
So, I am at work rn but I entered quick in retail and classic
https://uploadnow.io/f/B3fj2z9
This is the link for the 2 ss that I did quick but they are not exactly fair as one is in Valdrakken (so high load) and one is in starting zone in classic and yeah, in retail it spikes while classic, with less demand, is more constant and I have 200-250 fps in classic vs retail with 160 and drops to 10 + the cosntant 1-2 sec freeze.
So, I do not know what I can do but I guess I will wait for another update and see if it is the same or I will wait for my payment and buy the 16 RAM and a SSD and life should be very smooth
as I said, last Sunday before my travel with work all was good, BGs, Raids, World stuff but when I log in last weekend(2-3 days ago), boom, nothing works.
Looking at the video you posted and seing this, it confirms my suspicion that the problem is playing WoW from an HDD.
Your HDD cannot stream the data fast enough and thus you get the stuttering everytime something has to be loaded in fast.
The more addons you have enabled, the longer the loading screens will be and also even more stuttering.
The only solution is to move WoW to an SSD, which you are already planning, so you will have to wait for that
Yeah, I was waiting for your reply to confirm this HDD problem. I still do not understand why WoW does not work anymore… It worked fine 10 days ago even with 6-7 addons and now with 0 addons and on “fair” graphics it runs…bad
Anyway, I will wait for my salary which is not that soon and I will upgrade to SSD and then invest in some RAM too. I think it would be more simple to just get my PC but dad would no longer play anything hahah
Yeah that’s a bit strange… so either something wrong with your HDD, some stuff running in the background accessing it too… or it is very fragmented (even though that shouldn’t be a bug problem with today’s OS’s).
But anyways, a SSD is mandatory these days, even for WoW
Some games actually require an SSD for min specs now.
I have the exact same ram and video card, and am having the exact same issues. It plays awfully on and off… the only difference is that wow is on my SSd
