FPS Issues with GTX 1060 6gb

Dear Community,

Recently i resubscribed to the game after 5 years of brake. Stopped playing at the end of Mists of Pandaria. Few months ago i upgraded my pc with new GPU,SSD,RAM etc. Only thing i did not changed is my cpu which is an i3-4160 CPU @ 3.60GHz. All my temps are normal. GPU on occasions goes up to 75-79 when am playing, but in general is in the 60-70 range. Idling between 40 to 45 degrees.

The specs:
CPU: i3-4160 CPU @ 3.60GHz
GPU: ASUS DUAL-GTX1060-O6G (it runs in the OC mode)
RAM: DDR3 16GB
DRIVE: SSD + HDD (game is installed on SSD)

In-game settings:
Anti-Aliasing: FXAA High
Depth Effects: High
Display Mode: Full Screen
Environment Detail: 2
Ground clutter: 4
Lightning Quality: High
MSAA: None
Multisample Alpha test: Enabled
Particle density: Fair
Post-Process AA: FXAA High
Projected Textures: Enbabled
Render Scale: 100%
Resample Quality: Bilinear
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Refresh rate: 144 Hz
Shadow quality: High
SSAO: Ultra
Sunshafts: High
Texture Filtering: 16 x Anisotropic
Texture resolution: High
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 + enabled Directx12 option ( i have noticed 10 FPS increase on average)
Drivers Version: 419.35
Addons: None

Everything else is turned off except the physics.

FPS facts:
Sitting still outside of Boralus: 150-180 FPS
Fighting: 100-150 FPS
Island expeditions: 100-150 FPS
Dungeons: 100-150 (drops below 100 only briefly depending on the situation, but never below 60-70)
In Boralus: 50-60 up to 110 depending where i am in the city
Raiding: not tested yet

Even when am in a heavy fighting situation with lots of people around me the game is super smooth.

What i am experiencing is a huge drop in performance after certain amount of time playing or when i change zones/fly to somewhere else. At least that’s when i notice the performance issue happens.

FPS facts, when this happens:

Sitting still outside of Boralus: FPS cant go above 100 FPS + brief freezes
Fighting: FPS can go lower then 60 + brief freezes
Island Expeditions: Same as above + more brief freezes
Dungeons: Same as above, but a tiny bit worse
In Boralus: drops to 20 fps even can achieve below 20 fps! and the freezes are even worse. (feels like playing on my old GT 610)
Raiding: not tested

At this point i close the game and reopen it if i want to continue playing.

Basically am now starring at the FPS counter, rather then playing. :frowning:

Optimized everything i can and know in terms of my nvidia settings, windows options since WOW is not running in Full Screen mode now. I even optimized my battle.net launcher. Frankly i don’t believe i have to optimize anything with the setup i have atm. I understand that my CPU is not the best, but that should’t be causing the above. I should be having the same experience when i log in and when i have played for a couple of hours, there should be no performance differences, am i wrong?

I am basically very confused and will appreciate any advice as to what is wrong and how i can fix it.

Regards,

So, when the fps drops happen, does your cpu temp go up alot?
Have you tried without addons?
Anything running in the background that is using more cpu than it should?

Hello Aimjin,

Sometimes the CPU temps are going to 83 (it happens only once or twice during my game session) and then dropping back to 70-80, but it doesn’t shoots up to 83 from lets say 70. It goes kind of gradually.

These are the general temps the CPU is showing while playing. The software am using to record my temps doesn’t shows the load on the CPU, so not sure whether its working at full 100% load or less. It records the temps every second.

The 83 degrees doesn’t looks very good tho. I have to be honest and admit that my case is not made for such a big GPU (before that i had a GT 610  ), but i haven’t noticed any heat issues.

The only background programs that are running while playing are my Chrome and Antivirus software.

Regards,

The issue is gone. The main thing i did is to change Directx12 back to Directx11.
Uninstalled some software as well and removed my GPU software. Did my first Uldir/Dazar’alor and was flawless with 60-100 fps. You can close this.

Locking as requested. Happy to see you can raid without any further issues Mabelle.
